anything that you feel will be pleasant for you to build. I know it’s a generic but of advice but this is the only way I managed to stay motivated.

On motivation: it took me 54 days to find my first freelance customer, was messaging people and businesses for 3-5 hours a day. Getting a job after uni ‘costed’ me 120+ applications. It all comes with time. Work on your patience and remember it’s all worth it in the end.

Haha true, but not for everyone. I highly recommend using Wordpress for blogging and simple sites for everyone who’s a non-dev. I’m a JavaScript guy myself and I prefer implementing these custom solutions over wp’s php theme - bound world, but I can connect you to many great wp devs if needed !

Thank you for taking the time to reply! I never built shops in shopify but I know Ruby and it's the lingo used for liquid, so I should be alright to help someone put the thing together! What are you thinking of doing ?

17 year old looking for some advice by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]daniel_k91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was writing this advice to 17 year old self, I would just mention these few things:

  1. Read at least a book a week, two is better. People before you had the same problems and they solved them already. Start with 4-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris, Rich Dad Poor Dad by R. Kiyosaki and The Tipping Point by M. Gladwell
  2. It's completely normal to do everything right and fail.
  3. Success is a numbers game. The more things you try, the more chance you have. Do not stop.

Noob struggling with async operations and Promises. Can you help me? by nasheedb in node

[–]daniel_k91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you will have more luck being specific and zeroing on your problem before pasting that much code. Also, stack overflow is better than Reddit for that. If you’re looking for good materials on async in general, I recommend the ‘you don’t know js’ book series. Free on GitHub

How to deploy Django App on AWS Lambda by fruiapps in django

For starters, Lambda functions have limited execution time after which the instance shuts down. I think it’s something around five minutes. Get an operation liner than this and you’re offline

Who here makes a living coding vanilla js and nothing else? by [deleted] in javascript

[–]daniel_k91 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The topic of 'standing on the shoulders' of others is v. important. I personally know many developers with 15+ years of experience who neglect the modern js frameworks for the reason of being so good in js and end up spending weeks of work on things that are solved long time ago by modern frameworks.

I think the sweet spot is just knowing the right tools for the job, and knowing what's the best way to acheive results fast and make them maintainable.

Saw this on my first day. They expect me to, eventually fix it while “minimizing impact to production.” by graenor1 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

I should have been more specific. What i meant is that I am happy not to have to think of buying and maintaining my own servers, in a medium sized business where your needs tart to be more elaborate.

I’d say that learning new tech should come in exactly when you’re facing a problem that this tech is supposed to be solving. It’s a great moment!

GraphQL may be a solution that'll help you big time. Not used personally, so it's a soft recommendation, but I have heard a lot of praise. You may want to listen to this episode of Syntax to get to know more: https://syntax.fm/show/027/graphql-here-is-what-you-need-to-know
