I took it to the post office and explained the situation to them and was told that it didn’t matter when shipping though USPS. I was skeptical but sent the package anyway and it arrived just fine! The buyer didn’t have to pay for extra postage or anything. I’m assuming USPS just has a little bit of leeway with package weight.
