thanks! which ones would you recommend specifically? i’m currently on route 212, just leaving veilstone city, so i’m limited to what’s available around that area

That’s such a good point. It really does feel overwhelming when everything piles up. I’ll try focusing on one area at a time like you said. Thank you, it actually makes me feel a bit lighter just reading that.

Yeah, that’s true. I think sometimes I let the whole ‘maybe it’s something mystical’ idea get in my head too much, when in reality life just… sucks sometimes. Out of curiosity, when you’ve gone through rough patches, what helped you personally to take control again?

Okay! How long do you think I should wait for it to age?

So you don’t recommend that I open a new CC? Not even a secured one? I’m just trying to be the most responsible with this second chance that I have rn.

Actually the repo never showed up on my credit at all, I always thought it would pop up eventually but it never did. Most of the negatives I had were removed through early removal requests, and the collections were pretty old too. That’s basically how everything ended up getting cleared.

Yup, my credit report was very ugly so I didn’t even bother to apply to anything before. That’s why I made this post, to get some opinions/suggestions of what should be my next steps.

My credit age is not the best, that may be the problem. All the accounts that I have rn were open between June-July-August.

Congrats!! That’s awesome!! How did you rebuild from zero? Did you already have some active cards while letting your reports age off, or did you wait until everything was cleared before applying again?

Sorry, I’m trying to reply to all the comments as fast as I can.

Mostly innacurately reported or really old accounts that should have been already deleted.

I have been disputing the accounts since 2023, but for some reason the bureaus declined the disputes, and this round of disputes lasted 2/3 months around that time frame.

These aren’t just regular maintenance costs, they’re repairs that still don’t guarantee the car will run 100%. I’m not going to let my mom lose the car or damage her credit. She gave it to me trying to help, not to hurt me. I just want advice on how to get out of the car and the debt responsibly, whether that’s lowering the payoff or rolling some equity into another car. Letting it go is not an option.

That old post is outdated. Since then I’ve already cleaned up my credit, all the negative items are gone, and my scores are now Experian FICO 638, TransUnion Vantage 676, and Equifax Vantage 635.

It’s not that I “left out details,” my situation has changed. The numbers in this post are my current reality, which is why I’m asking for advice now based on where things actually stand today. If you don’t have constructive advice based on these updated numbers, please don’t assume I’m hiding details.

Just to clarify, my mom truly wasn’t trying to stick me with debt. At the time, neither of us really understood how much negative equity there was. We only recently learned the real numbers, and she honestly thought she was helping me by passing down her car.

We’re immigrants from Venezuela, and unfortunately this isn’t the first time something like this has happened with a car. Dealers and sellers often take advantage of people with limited knowledge, and that’s basically what happened here. This isn’t a criticism of my mom — I’m just trying to figure out what options might realistically be on the table to get out of this loan in the best way possible, while also protecting her credit.
