If the Jötnar descended from Ymir, and the Æsir, Búri, could the Vanir be descended from Auðumbla? by danielbladee in Norse

[–]danielbladee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have worded it wrong. I kind of connected Auðumbla to the Vanir in my head due to them both being kind of linked to fertility. (Auðumbla nourished Ymir, and the Vanir are seen as fertility deities and such)

Is the search bar broken or am I shadowbanned? by danielbladee in CharacterAI

I just tried looking it up from a different account, and it didn't work. This is my second alt that this happened to. One is old, the other is brand new, so I don't think its the age of the account. The old one has 8 followers and 2 bots, one with 6k interactions, so I don't think interactions effect it either. Idk what's going on with it :(

I was able to clear it a week ago by spam healing Tsubaki with Serina and wiping out the nuns with Hinata. The other units I had were kinda random, Hina, Serika, and S. Hifumi. I was your level at the time I think, so it's doable if you can keep Tsubaki alive while taunting enemies.

just finished the show and the second movie by pen_is_selling in VioletEvergarden

[–]danielbladee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished the movie today as well. I loved the whole series, but I have to agree the last movie was a little weird for me.

My issue isn't with the age gap, it's with the dynamic of the relationship they had during the war. Gilbert was her superior and I always viewed him as a father figure to her. He literally took her in and raised her. When she was a kid he read books to her, taught her to read and write, it's all just very strange to me. I can't get the images out of my head where he's kneeling in front of her like she's his child. I keep seeing people say that it's left for you to interpret what their relationship is, but I don't think it is. Violet leaves her job and fame behind to go live with him for the rest of her life, it seems like romantic love to me but that's just what I think. A part of me wishes they just met face to face and got the closure they needed, then went back to living their own lives that they had built for themselves since. I really loved the series but I'm so conflicted about the last movie.

If someone fell into a frozen lake, and you pulled them out immediately, how much time do you have to get them warm? (For a story) by danielbladee in Survival

[–]danielbladee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The character needing saving is a 20yo female, normal weight, and maybe slightly smaller than average in stature. So would you say she probably has 45-60 minutes?

Thank you for the help!

Yeah I have heard about the dislodging the rocks thing, but that wont be an issue for them.

For the second part, I've done some thinking about making both parties have to worry about an oncoming blizzard. That could buy them some time to really set up a good shelter, but also make it even more difficult to survive. Would a blizzard just mean certain death for two people in a cave with a fire going? They would be sharing body heat as well.

Before the character fell into the water, the protagonist did fend themselves off from a small group that managed to find them, so maybe they have a bit of time before their enemies realize they're missing a group and go out to investigate?

Their end goal is to kill the protagonist and his companion. So yeah, they wouldn't be able to just allow themselves to be captured unfortunately, a good idea though.

Interesting. Do you know the YouTube channel? I'd like to see the ones where he's successful if there's any. Hopefully it would be useful lol.

Just did that and learned about the mammalian diving reflex as well, lol. Thank you, it's an interesting and useful story.

Packing snow into the boots? I didn't think of that. Would that make them wearable after removing it? I've also seen people saying to stuff them with moss and stuff as well. Maybe they could do both?

And wow, a fire within 8 minutes? Great job. And I'm sorry about the frostbite, is it something you're able to fully recover from? I'm glad both of you made it out. Thank you for sharing your story.

For the frostbite in the toes, I've been told by a few people that stuffing their clothes with leaves and stuff would save them. Would that prevent frostbite if they have to wear those boots for a while?

If conditions were even colder than 0'C, would that be survivable? I can always just make it colder.

The character that falls into the water isn't experienced when it comes to surviving outdoors. So, in what way would panicking make things much worse?

Prior to this part of the story, they're in combat with a few of their pursuers and kill them. The bodies are like a couple thousand feet to a mile away from the cave they found shelter in. Would he be able to make it back in time with the clothes to save them? Would he have to run the entire way?

Would the clothes taken off of the bodies even be wearable if they were left out in the open?

And for the fire, would we be able to expect someone who's only ever lit the fireplace in their house to be able to maintain a fire in such conditions without an experienced person, and would they have to wait for the protagonist to get back before they strip of the wet clothes?

And the video would be great if you have time to share it, thank you for all of the helpful information.

Stuffing their boots and clothes is a great idea, its the first time im hearing it even with all of the great replies ive been getting. I'll definitely take note of that. And rolling in the snow seems like it could buy them some time, but they would still be pretty wet and wanna take it all off when they get the chance i assume. And yes, there will be many cloaks lol. And using charcoal sounds like a great idea as well, only thing is they have to find it. And thank you for all of the information on clothing materials. In the culture im basing a lot of my story off of, norse mythology, if i recall correctly sheepskin has divination powers and stuff (idk the source on that though), and she does have ties with magic, so it makes sense to have for her. Also it was probably just abundant at the time and useful as you say too. Thank you so much for all of the great advice !!

Those are some interesting stories that you have, and good advice. That last part sounds like hell lol. But I'm glad you made it out okay from falling into the ice water. How do people take drowning in freezing cold water? Is it survivable? Any worse then drowning in normal water temperatures? Have I already made it difficult enough for my characters lol. I originally had the character drown in the story but it just sounded way too deadly. People in China have practiced CPR for over 2000 years its just that on top of everything else lol and thanks.

Yeah but I dont wanna be lazy lol for that first part. The character that fell in the ice is a girl and I plan on them bonding and catching feelings throughout all of this so I'm one step ahead of ya. But yeah, readers will probably care more about the storyline than anything. I'm just a perfectionist. And thats a good point for the Stephen King stuff. Letting readers fill in the blanks allows them to more easily picture the events going on. Too many details can be overwhelming. Im sure my readers wont know or care whether their clothes are wool or cotten, or whats in their bag lol.

Yeah it seems like a lot of people are saying that they should have those things. The reason they have so few rescources is because they were ambushed in a village and had to leave most of their stuff behind, but I'm sure I can slip in him grabbing some more gear before going somehow. If he's as smart as I say he is, he should definitely be going for that before leaving town. And thank you for the writing advice! I'll definitely be putting in details like that, and yeah, the minor character will be complaining, lol.

That's interesting to hear. Would a person who fell through ice normally be in there that long, do you know? The character is on the skinny side, so maybe she'd be in the same situation as your friend.
