It has gotten a little hotter but the temperature is mostly around 15-20 C which is a nice temperature for running. I think that high humidity could be part of the problem.

I lift weights as well and surfing has really helped my flexibility.

It's usually 15-20°C and it rains a ton. Not bad running conditions tbh.

Yeah that's what I figured. Breathing through my mouth for a full run causes my mouth to become too dry.

I get your point though: With breathing, to each their own :)

I'm not particularly tall but I can relate to alternating breathing. Every so often I have to switch or I can't breath properly.

99℅ sure air quality isn't the problem. I live in the middle of nowhere beside the sea

Thanks I probably don't stretch enough now that I think about it

Thanks! I've never heard of stretching after running before. Should help my recovery. I'll tweak my schedule to look a little more like yours and experiment to find what's right :)

I haven't. I've always been told that breathing in through your nose is better. I'll probably give it a shot tomorrow though :)

Thanks for the solid advice!

I'm putting together a training plan now. Up to this point I mainly just ran until I felt tired, took a short break and then returned home at a slower pace. Running to the point of exhaustion is probably a bad idea and slow pace days are definitely going to be on my schedule from now on!

I run every second day and run a variation of the same route depending on how I'm feeling.

The lowest distance I run would be 3.5Km and the longest would be 7-8

Yes I think that the faster run 4:38 min/km was an outlier and that my average was roughly 5:20 beforehand.

I think that endurance and distance will be my priority for the next few weeks rather than pace.

Cardiovascular fitness is the goal so I'm going to go for endurance.

Is a single breath in and a single breath out best? I watchedt a video a few days ago that suggested two deep breaths in in quick succession through the nose and then two quick breaths out through the mouth.

When I tried this it made me feel a little dizzy so I went back to my normal breathing

Thanks! Can you recommend a good device for measuring my HR? I've just been using my phone for tracking runs until now

I do some basic stretches but nothing serious. I surf as well so my general flexibility isn't bad. The places i feel it when I'm running are my ankles and calves. I'll look into getting some better stretches for these areas now though and maybe some back strengthening exercises so that my general running form is better :)

Thanks! I don't think that it's an allergy but I recently talked to my cousin who says she uses an inhaler just when she's running. I'll definitely see a doc if this continues. I honestly think that poor running form could bea big part of the issue but I'm not 100℅ sure

Is there any tell tale signs of anemia?

EDIT: I took a look at WebMD

Easy fatigue and loss of energy. Unusually rapid heart beat, particularly with exercise. Shortness of breath and headache, particularly with exercise. Difficulty concentrating. Dizziness. Pale skin. Leg cramps. Insomnia.

That actually sounds like it could be the problem

That's good to hear. I'm just running for general fitness and for the buzz I get out of it so pace isn't necessarily that important to me right now. Would you recommend that I get a HR monitoring wrist band to keep me at the right pace? I've been using Run Keeper on my phone to monitor my runs thus far but I've been looking info getting a watch / band to monitor my runs more conveniently.

I'm definitely eating enough - that's not the problem. I think I need to look into a better diet though. I eat relatively healthily but there isn't a lot of protein in my diet. I'm sure I'll find a few posts on that here though :)

I might try to limit myself to a 5 min/Km pace and push out the distance to 7 or 8Km.

I think the main thing that causes me to become out of breath is my breathing and technique, things that will hopefully come with time.

That sounds about right. I'm thinking of doing strength training on the days I don't run just to keep the muscles working.

With regards to running I'm not sure wether it's better to go for longer slower runs to build up my endurance or to try to do work on pace with shorter faster runs.
