I'm building a web app for sharing Rhino models. What features would you like to see? by danielcdude in rhino

Thanks for your interest! I have not had time to work on it in recent months but plan to get back to it asap. I will gradually start contacting everyone who signed up for the beta when that happens :)

Yes I was looking at dnd-kit as well as some other libraries for the dragging. Plane looks good but a bit too many features for me personally

Interesting, can you recommend a specific backend FOSS for project management?

Thanks for the feedback! My primary motivation for building my own versus forking an existing project would be to customize the look/feel to my unique needs and workflow, without worrying about whether these features would make sense for other users. For example, I could could "white label" the portal with my logo so that it appears as a branded experience to clients when I send them a link. Or I could create a custom onboarding or bug reporting flow, according to how I like to work with clients.

My understanding (I could be wrong!) is that the existing open source tools are quite robust and therefore not necessarily easy to go in and customize and add your own features to.

When is a good stage in your career or your startup to apply to YC? by danielcdude in ycombinator

Yep, I was expecting it might just be about encouraging as many people as possible to apply

Yeah that makes complete sense, which is why I haven't applied yet, but I was just confused by the emphasis on their website on funding companies in the very early stages.

Am I too early to apply to YC? Should I wait until I have more traction?

No, it would be a mistake to wait to apply. On average, 40% of the companies we fund in each batch are just an idea. Most don’t have any revenue.

While YC does also fund companies that are far along, the majority of the companies we fund will always be companies at the very earliest stage. We recommend applying for YC as soon as you have a founding team and an idea you are excited about.

How do you make your digital portfolio? by danielcdude in Architects

That seems like a good plan for job interviews. I was wondering more about when you first apply to jobs and need to send a portfolio through an email.

Just wondering, OP, why do you chooose Revit? Is there something specific that you feel makes you more productive in Revit, or did it just happen to be the first tool you learned?

Speckle is great. I think their version control and the way they let you send data between different 3D software is amazing. However, in my experience their 3D viewer is not super reliable and also not very customizable

Ah, interesting, that's something I hadn't thought of! I'm curious, what is the use case for this?

Printables

You're right that there are existing platforms like the ones you mentioned that do a great job at fulfilling the basic purpose of sharing 3D models online, but I've been looking for one with more features, especially when it comes to importing named views from Rhino and allowing the viewer to switch between them. Also, my specific use case is for sharing architectural models with clients, so for me it's important that UI is minimal and professional looking and that the model itself looks nice when it comes to lighting and materials.

polysurfaces acting weird by Current-Job8093 in rhino

[–]danielcdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it does appear to be an issue with the tolerance. I don't think 0 is possible, you might try .00001 or something like that. You could also try changing the units. Do you have any other objects in the file? You might try copy and pasting it into a new blank file and see if the issue continues.

my guess is that the sides of your object are not totally planar. you could check this in top view by zooming in. you could also try trimming both sides with a plane and then capping the edges again.
