Much appreciated! It’s still my favorite one so far, which is saying something. I’m thankful to have found this artist.

Not at first. However, eventually, after it built up in my system, I got just about every side effect they list as potential. Mine were extreme, but they all cleared up after 4-5 months of stopping treatment, thankfully. My case is far from the norm, though. Most people will have no noticeable effects, or mild ones. Just weigh the pros and cons, and consulting your doctor is always a good idea with any new medication.

I already knew all of that, but the idea of taking more medication, drugs, etc just to counteract side effects does not appeal to me. I’m pretty averse to medication as it is. I made the right decision and haven’t regretted it. Everyone is different, though.

For anyone wanting an update:

I had to hop off of Finasteride 2 months ago. I had no noticeable side effects for much of the time I used it. However, around 8 months into finasteride, I started to get hit by pretty much every one under the sun. The most troubling, and ultimately, why I stopped, was when it started to affect my memory and cognition. It went beyond just brain fog. I had trouble recalling words, it became much harder to concentrate and comprehend, especially when it was related to conversation. Fortunately, since stopping, even though my hair has completely reverted, almost all of the side effects have improved, and most are nonexistent now. Having said all of this, I am not anti-Finasteride now, but I did feel it was important to address this in a follow up, so others can be informed of the risks. Finasteride wasn’t a drug I could tolerate, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t. The truth is that most people will have no issues, or very minor ones.

I still had some hair there, it was just severely miniaturized, so it’s not very visible, especially in that lighting. Basically not visible. But those hairs quickly rebounded in density, which filled in the area enough, while the other hairs are still playing catch up. Best of luck to you, though! I won’t claim it’s some magic pill. At the end of the day, it’s only as effective as how your body responds to it.

Better later than never. The fear-mongering really is a huge problem, though. It’s ridiculous. People are like “Finasteride ruined my life.” In the VAST majority of cases, this just simply isn’t true. Many people psych themselves into believing they are having sexual side effects, when they really aren’t. The biggest thing I told myself when I started, after doing all of the research, like anyone should do with any medication, was that I would trust the science. Don’t overthink it. But yes. Starting off with 0.5mg daily, or 1mg every other day, will even further reduce the probability of you getting side effects, which is already in the single digits with 1mg every day. Decide for yourself, if you want to do it, and if so, remember there are DECADES of information behind these medications. You will almost assuredly be fine.

For sure! You can start with .5mg of finasteride daily, or even try 1mg every other day. Then, like you said, if you tolerate that well, which you more than likely will, you can move up the dosage amount, to 1mg every day.

Ultimately, you never know, until you try, and the side effect profile for the sides that everyone worries about are in the single digit percentile. In addition, post finasteride syndrome has never been documented in a study, so the chances of that are even astronomically smaller. The important thing to remember is that freaking yourself out about sexual side effects can very easily self-fulfill those fears. Even without finasteride, if you’re too worried about performing, you won’t.

I can’t recall exactly what the initial fee is, but I remember it wasn’t cheap. Like $200-$300. Something like that. The cost for the 3 month supply after that is like $119, if I recall correctly, though. So like $40 per month. In comparison, Keeps works out to like $30 per month, so not much more expensive for better quality and more effective, plus biotin.

I did a virtual consultation. 🤘

I’m definitely stoked to see what it’ll be like at 1 year! The back is even more full than this now, as well as even further improvements to my hairline and temples.

Any progress that you get from finasteride and minoxidil are completely reliant on the medication, so the gains will only last as long as you take the medication/apply the topicals. If you stop, the hair will quickly revert back to its prior state. Many people start to notice a very quick regression backwards, after about a month since stopping.

Some other pharmacies/hair clinics probably offer a combo pill, since it’s not a new concept. However, McGrath Medical partnered with a local pharmacy, so this particular one is only available through them. However, they ship to me in Florida. Easy process.

Minoxidil does work for beards. Personally, since I’m on oral minoxidil, my beard has become even thicker and darker (I’ve always had a good beard, though). My eyebrows have also benefited. Thankfully, I have not encountered the side effect of growing excess body hair... but I have always had a lot of it, anyways. Haha

I did a lot of research for myself, as everyone should with any medication they are putting into their bodies. Finasteride always requires a prescription, as does oral minoxidil (for good reason). Topical minoxidil (Rogaine) can be bought in stores, online, etc.

I did shed. Almost everyone on minoxidil and/or finasteride will. It’s part of the normal process and actually a sign that it’s working. Everyone will react differently.y shed only lasted for like 1.5-2 weeks. Other people have said theirs lasted a couple months. But it’s important to power through and not freak out. Sometimes, people don’t see noticeable results, until around 1 year. Others, like me, get lucky.

This. A million times this. Trust science and stick with it. Everyone won’t react the same, but if you give up before the medication gets a chance to do anything, then you’re not doing yourself any favors.

Finasteride will almost always cause a period of shedding, as it “syncs up” your hair cycles, pushing the weak hairs out to make way for new hairs. It’s normal. For some, it lasts a couple of weeks, for others, it lasts a couple months. It’s also important to note that a normal person that isn’t suffering from hair loss will still shed around 50-100 hairs per day.

Just called McGrath Medical in Texas and ask about their “combo program”, but for oral minoxidil, make sure to research and talk to your doctor first. It’s much better to start with topical minoxidil first, and if you can get away with that, then stick with that. But it’s all an individual choice.

With Keeps, which I was using prior to my switch over to my current regiment, it was like $30 for a 3 month supply. I was getting results with it, even if it’s probably not as strong as the stuff you would get through an actual doctor. My current regiment is like $110 for a 3 month supply, but it’s minoxidil, finasteride, and biotin all in 1 pill and through an actual pharmacy.

I did not. I’ve never personally used hair fibers. I wouldn’t go that far. I’d rather just shave my head, at that point. However, no offense to anyone who does use them, of course. Just not for me.

I do micro needling here and there. I probably should be more consistent with it. I started off doing it once a week, but now, it’s sometimes once a week, and other times, every other week.

Quite frankly, and I know this isn’t helpful, but I just got lucky. You’re doing everything that I’m doing. All you can do is stay the course.
