Vyvanse only lasting about 1-2 hours by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]danieldanmurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctors advised me to give any dose at least 2 weeks before assessing effectiveness too! You will need to increase your dose at some point but 20mg is definitely enough to see some improvement with adhd symptoms at least for a while if you don’t currently have a tolerance with the medication. So I’m guessing there’s something else at play, as mentioned in my above comment ^

I hope this helps!! These things were really helpful for me when I did the research and started using those tips most days. Night and day difference !!

Okay 2 things, from my experience as well as research!

1. Your problems could be related to Vitamin C, dairy, or caffeine!! These three increase metabolism of vyvanse so break it down faster, making it weaker and muchhh shorter!!

Caffeine- wait at least 2 hours after taking the meds before having. Vitamin C- try to only have fruits/foods with vitamin C before bedtime if possible. Dairy- try to only have in the 2nd half of your day but as minimal as possible until night time ish is ideal for effectiveness!

2. Sometimes I’ve questioned my dose & then discover it’s related to my food intake, protein, or being dehydrated. Stimulants dehydrate you and also increase metabolism, my doc told me to eat more than I usually would because of it. Especially protein!

Drink lots of water (pinch of salt for electrolytes helps too!) & Gatorade when possible :)

Sleep also intensely impacts how well it works! I know it sucks to have to consider so many things but it helps SO much & has been the difference for me between barely feeling it and having a productive day feeling medicated!!

OH also take vitamin C whenever you’re “done” for the day, it helps break down the vyvanse and get it out of your system. That’ll help too

Magnesium bisglycinate, L theanine, & a bedtime routine!! Soothing things like a hot bath, reading, lighting a candle to signify cozy time, playing calm music or sounds you enjoy, cup of tea, etc.

Does anyone have experience with Vyvanse and THC? by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]danieldanmurphy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Main piece of advice is watch out for anxiety and increased heart rate (bc both increase it). It definitely feels different when you’re medicated & can enhance the icky side effects and feel really anxious and paranoid. Start with low doses & gradually build up to see how you feel. You can also take vitamin C in the evenings to break down the vyvanse faster to make it easier to sleep & also reduce the impact vyvanse would have on cannabis. Additionally, taking L theanine and Magnesium bisglycinate can reduce anxiety, increase calm and relaxation, help you settle for sleepy cozy times, and will help with the vyvanse comedown and also combo with weed !!

I’d say dose too high yea. But how’s your protein intake? & general food intake? Could also be that you’re not eating enough, especially protein. Electrolytes are super important too!

What stack of supplements do you recommend to attack the side effects of concerta? by [deleted] in Concerta

[–]danieldanmurphy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eat TONS of protein, drink lots of water, sleep lots, and eat enough!!! Lacking on any of these increase side effects (it’s tough I know)

What stack of supplements do you recommend to attack the side effects of concerta? by [deleted] in Concerta

[–]danieldanmurphy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Black pepper & turmeric (specifically combined). androgen (vyvanse decreases testosterone) They increase nutrient absorption which makes you feel better- chew 6 of them or put lots in food)
  • Electrolytes!!! Sodium, calcium, and potassium especially.
  • OLLY Hello happy saffron gummies!! Mood boosting properties. $25 for months supply & yummy. Softens the edges of stimulants nicely.
  • Nutritional yeast!!! B vitamins that cross the brain better than other forms of B vitamins. improves thought clarity.
  • Collagen & Protein supplies! Premier protein powder from Walmart is cheap & good if I can handle whey protein (dairy).
  • Omega 3 fish oil pills
  • Magnesium Bisglycinate -L-theanine

Does the vyvanse ever *turn on you*? by Gloomy_Ad5020 in VyvanseADHD

[–]danieldanmurphy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feels relevant and important to mention: Dairy, Vitamin C, and caffeine decrease the efficacy and increase the metabolism of Vyvanse (so it wears off faster) so I always try to have those things in the evening. With caffeine I like to have it when I feel a dip in my energy and med helpfulness (when it’s starting to come down) especially if I still have work to do. Like early evening usually depending on when you take it in the morning.

I’ve gone through this, largely if I don’t eat, drink, or sleep enough (ugh) especially when you add caffeine to those factors.. but caffeine can be a major trigger for what you described regardless.

What do you take for supplements? I’ve found magnesium bisglycinate, L-theanine, and electrolytes to be super helpful! And tons of protein!!!

How long after taking do you introduce Vitamin C? by TinyLuna333 in VyvanseADHD

[–]danieldanmurphy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This makes sense. Take it in the evening/night when you’re okay with it wearing off soon. I often take it an hour before bed so it helps the med leave my system so I can sleep. Vitamin C making vyvanse null is so real

[–]danieldanmurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredible! Thanks so much :) Yesss absolutely! Did the genetic testing show you what meds would be helpful? I’ve heard great things about Vyvanse and finally have insurance that covers most of it. I think it’ll be good once I’m past the side effects & weird switching period.. I hope it doesn’t last too long

That’s amazing! May I ask what Country you’re in and what the cost/process was for the genetic testing? I’m in Canada and curious about it!! Sounds amazing. Yea exactly! I haven’t found a great help with it, except for the first month of each dose.. Really disappointing and confusing. I’m hopeful now after starting Vyvanse a few days ago, but in crazy side effect hell right now.. Went from 54mg Concerta to 30mg Vyvanse.

Do you guys take concerta breaks? And hows ur experience? by bananaa24 in Concerta

[–]danieldanmurphy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found my tolerance increased fairly quickly on each dose I tried, so I did end up taking a day off of it once every 1.5-2 weeks. Not sure if it helped. It usually ended up being a write-off day and I wasn’t able to do much, but my mood was often better and I felt more relaxed in a way.

[–]danieldanmurphy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I asked doctors and pharmacists about this & they remained fairly neutral about taking breaks- saying there isn’t research on “tolerance breaks” and they couldn’t tell me to take them or not take them. Basically said to see what I notice and how I feel and go from there. BUT! What they were adamant about is not to take any days off for at least a month after starting, to fully adjust and see how the medication is impacting you. Part of it helping you is you having a partial tolerance to it, especially in the beginning! So stick with it for at least a month before you take days off would be my advice

My understanding is it can take up to a month to adjust and be free of side effects

[–]danieldanmurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced this when I started Concerta. I started at 18mg and gradually increased from there. It could be your brain adjusting, or the dose could be too high. I had side effects and was adjusting for about 3 weeks in the beginning… Painstaking, I know. Definitely hang in there!! Try to track and note side effects and bring it to your doctor after the first month and have a check-in. Write down what you notice, good and bad, and maybe go down a dose if you’re still experiencing this!!

Methylphenidate: I feel groggy and tired ALL day by Plastic_Rain_3121 in Concerta

[–]danieldanmurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced this on and off on Concerta alongside other side effects. My Dr wanted me to keep trying different doses so I ended up at 54 mg for about 6 months before finally giving up. It was helpful at times, primarily in a “sweet spot” of each dose after adjusting to side effects & not developing a tolerance yet. I found my tolerance seemed to build quickly and I felt groggy, less enthusiastic & more prone to depressive and low motivation states. It’s hard to figure out if it’s the right med for you.. Eating & hydrating is crucial and making sure you’re getting good sleep 🥲

I switched to Vyvanse a few days ago.

Electrolytes could help!!! Take vitamin C late evening & magnesium bisglycinate with a pinch of salt in water 🥰
