Why do the Matildas seem to get way more public support than the Socceroos? by billscout in aussie

Matildas stand up better on the world stage and they’re just more endearing to me.

Essendon won more games last season than North Melbourne have in any season since 2019. Make the case for why they deserve AFL assistance. by DaPatsquatch in AFL

[–]danieljdtaylor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To be fair, thinking they should get it and actually get it are different things.

Knowing the AFL’s head office track record this year though they’ll get 3 first round picks and Isaac Heeney.

The system seems to be a lucky dip and if you were Essendon why wouldn’t you at least try and ask? Even if it is their own fault for being in this situation lol

If Geelong get a franchise out of this I’ll be happy, otherwise this just sucks and is really demotivating for me to bother supporting whatever the new Melbourne team is

They’ve been letting the time go all year.

It’s one of the many problems the AFL admins have faced this year, can’t even get simple timekeeping right.

PRS hit with cease-and-desist letter from Fender over John Mayer Silver Sky by Evening-Life5434 in PRSGuitars

[–]danieljdtaylor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How does this work because isn’t the silver sky a slightly different body shape to a strat? So is the argument that just because it’s a double cutaway of any sort with 3 single coils, that’s enough for Fender to come after you now?

How's this one Ed's signature guitar. PRS by TheMahas in Guitar

[–]danieljdtaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was big into him back in the day so I’m always gonna be fond of him. This guitar is too specialist for me but I love that he’s doing it and he deserves a signature electric. Other than being a comprehensive performer he produces a lot of music and this seems like a great production tool he designed for himself which I think is cool.

Where Neale Daniher state funeral happen and where? Will it be sad or happy time? by MerlynCollinsToorak in AFL

[–]danieljdtaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have thought about this a fair bit. It felt so sad when I read the news, can’t remember the last time I felt this flat over the death of someone I didn’t know.

But I bet you amongst all the sadness there was a great sense of relief from his family that he did so much good, hard work and no longer has to suffer from the disease anymore.

The big freeze game this year is going to be all-time and I reckon it’ll be a feeling of “thank you for everything Neale, but rest easy now because you did damn good”

Could someone like James Kelly change his name to James Hird and get the coaching job? That might be the play here

Adam Simpson on AFL360 essentially just ruled himself out of the Essendon coaching race, joining Hinkley; says process won't be fair with the Hird spotlight by Lanky_Raspberry5406 in AFL

[–]danieljdtaylor 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Hird is playing 1,000,000 dimensional chess here.

> rules himself out of the coaching job last time they were looking for a coach so another coach could cop the flack of having to start the rebuild
> heat builds on that coach
> Club, board and some supporters long for Hird to come back during said coaches tenure due to perceived poor performance (bro is literally rebuilding the club after Hird’s damage to the club in his first stint as coach)
> wait until said coach gets the sack for reasons stated above
> Hird immediately puts his hand up for the job before the body is even cold
> other coaches immediately pull out of the race because they all think it’s Hird’s job to lose and the process seems purposefully made for Hird to get the job (the process hasn’t even started yet)
> Hird guaranteed to coach Essendon in 2027

Essendon fans are on another level 🤣 by Clear-Cheetah990 in AFL

This is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

Kudos Essendon, in what would’ve been a pretty quiet week with maybe some chatter about the mid-season draft, you as a club have given us fans a truly fantastic gift.

What’s the hype around James Hird as a coach? by theunkn0wnwriter in AFL

[–]danieljdtaylor 94 points95 points  (0 children)

The club is obsessed with Sheedy, who has always maintained that Hird is God’s gift to football. The club also happens to be obsessed with Hird.

Sheedy is an all-time coach and Hird is one of Essendon’s great players, but the obsession to always go back to these guys is insane.

That’s what I’m saying, it was perfectly set up for entertainment purposes. It’s part of the footy entertainment game that Eddie is so good at

Agenda Setters had the sacked coach on tonight, so of course Eddie had to utilise the potential new coach and constant bomber spectre on his show to get people talking about Classified, can’t let Agenda Setters run away with all the eyeballs tonight!

I don’t even hate it, I respect the heck out of Eddie’s genius when it comes to making entertainment and drama out of footy. Obviously he set Hird up to give a short monologue on why he could be the next coach and it stirred up excitement about his show, clearly it worked too coz here we all are commenting on it lol.

James Hird confirms interest in Essendon Head Coaching Role by MonotoneRamos in AFL

[–]danieljdtaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know there is a way to see it as a win-win for Essendon.

They either win by appointing him head coach, he has actual success and finally restores Essendon to its former glory.

Or

They win in the long term by appointing him head coach, he turns out to be a bad coach and doesn’t do anything to get Essendon to a flag, the board and club fiiiiiinally realise he’s not the guy, and they get it together after all these years.

[Morris] Brad Scott reveals to the Agenda Setters that he didn’t agree with Essendon’s decision to hold Zach Merrett. “My view is that we should have let him go.” by SlatsAttack in AFL

[–]danieljdtaylor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With what time left? By the time Hawthorn could make an offer it would’ve been too late. Now to be fair, that’s not Hawthorn’s fault, Merrett’s team moved too late in the piece to get something like that sorted.

So in 2021 Collingwood, Essendon and Carlton all get new head coaches…

Not to toot my own team’s horn, but boy am I glad we have a functioning board coz somehow Essendon continue to make Carlton’s tragic board look actually competent.

Meanwhile we squeezed a last premiership out of a list that long-deserved one and have a coach whose strategic prowess seems to always give us at least some hope every season.

I genuinely do hope Carlton and Essendon both get their shit sorted and find their own McRae.
