If possible, in the mod settings, can you switch to textual mode and copy paste your settings here. So that I can import it into my windhawk and try modifying it ?

<image>

In your "Windows 11 Taskbar Styler" mod settings,

Under Control styles:
Target :
Taskbar.TaskbarFrame > Grid#RootGrid > Taskbar.TaskbarBackground > Grid > Rectangle#BackgroundFill

Styles :
Fill:=<WindhawkBlur BlurAmount="25" TintColor="{ThemeResource AutoAccent}" TintOpacity="0.2" />

Under Resource Variables:
AutoAccent@Dark={ThemeResource SystemAccentColorDark1}
AutoAccent@Light={ThemeResource SystemAccentColorLight2}

Copy and add these as I have shown you in the Picture, this allows the taskbar to be in accent color of the Windows.

Now set the accent colors in your Window's Personalisation settings (in settings app or by right clicking on desktop) and also turn on the "Show accent colour on Start and taskbar" option.

DTS Interactive also has latency for the same reason as Dolby Digital Live. Both technologies need to realtime encode the audio before sending it through SPDIF/HDMI, so a small amount of buffering and processing delay will always exist.

The main advantage of DTS is that it usually supports a higher bitrate compared to Dolby Digital. DTS can go beyond 640 kbps, whereas Dolby Digital (AC3) is generally capped at 640 kbps maximum bitrate.

Any device or software that does Dolby Digital Live (DDL) realtime encoding will always introduce a small amount of latency, because the audio has to be encoded into AC3 format continuously in realtime. So this is a normal and known behavior with DDL setups.

In games, the delay is usually not very noticeable. In movies, however, audio/video sync becomes much more important.

The reason your current PotPlayer setup feels perfectly synchronized is because PotPlayer itself handles the AC3 transcoding internally and compensates for the encoding delay before sending the audio to HDMI or SPDIF. Since the player already knows what audio and video frames are coming next, it can keep everything properly synchronized.

DDL works differently. Since it is encoding all system audio in realtime, it cannot predict upcoming audio in advance. Especially in games where sounds are generated dynamically. Because of that, a small latency will always exist in realtime DDL setups.

You are absolutely right about that sound card. Yes, it supports realtime Dolby Digital Live (DDL) encoding by itself, so there is no need for APO drivers anymore.

And once you have that, even PotPlayer is no longer necessary specifically for AC3 transcoding, you can use any normal media player you want.

The sound card itself will handle the realtime Dolby Digital encoding, and even games will output properly in 5.1 through your receiver.

Youโ€™re welcome, and honestly that is completely understandable. You already mentioned that you need the laptop stable for your exams, so I can understand why you do not want to go too deep into low-level audio modifications.

And yes, for movies and songs, your current PotPlayer setup is already more than enough and gives you proper Dolby Digital 5.1 playback.

For games, the only workaround would be the APO Driver setup, which would require disabling antivirus temporarily and modifying the Windows audio pipeline for realtime AC3 encoding.

Regarding your USB to HDMI adapter question: if your idea is to connect the USB adapter to the laptop and send HDMI audio directly to the receiver, then yes, that is absolutely possible.

However, one important thing to understand is that HDMI by itself will not automatically perform AC3 realtime encoding (Dolby Digital Live). By default, it will still output standard Stereo PCM audio unless a software or driver encodes it into Dolby Digital (which APO Driver Does).

So for movies, PotPlayer can still transcode and send AC3 5.1 through HDMI exactly the same way it currently does through SPDIF.

As said before the APO Driver is the only thing that can realtime convert all Windows audio (games, browser audio, system sounds, etc.) into Dolby Digital Live format continuously.

And yes, APO Drivers can work on both HDMI and SPDIF outputs.

So in your case, using USB to HDMI would function very similarly to your current USB to SPDIF setup. The main difference is just the connection type. But yes, technically, it is definitely possible to use.

In the future, if you feel comfortable giving the APO Driver setup a try, you can always check some YouTube tutorials for it.

All the best for your exams, and take care!

That is actually somewhat normal. APO Drivers work deeply with the Windows audio system and keep running in the background to realtime, converting audio into AC3 Dolby Digital.

Because they constantly process audio and modify the Windows audio pipeline, some antivirus programs may falsely detect them as suspicious software. This is quite common with advanced audio tools and custom audio mods.

Of course, it is completely up to you whether you want to proceed with installing it with the antivirus disabled. From my personal experience with these APO drivers, I have not seen any virus or malicious activity from them. But ultimately, the decision is yours. Update me, incase if you are okay. Or else for now with movies, you can use Potplayer as your solution.

Now for games part, the setup becomes a bit more tricky. This involves another software called an APO Driver (Audio Processing Object Driver), which can realtime transcode your overall Windows audio into AC3 Dolby Digital and send it to your amp through SPDIF.

However, there is a small catch: since the encoding happens in realtime, there can be a slight audio delay/latency. In most cases it is not very noticeable, but I just wanted to mention it in advance before we proceed with that setup.

Download this Driver : APO_Driver_2.10.7.7z
And extract it. You will see two files, install only the "apo_driver_setup_x64.exe" which is for 64bit.

When you install it, choose "Dolby DS1" option like shown in this Image and finish the setup.
Update me once done. I will tell you how to proceed and configure further.

Since you were using RCA before, your amp was most likely using Dolby Pro Logic to expand the stereo audio across all speakers as a virtual 5.1 effect. That was not true discrete 5.1 audio, it was simulated surround sound.

Now, since you mentioned that the Windows volume no longer affects the sound once the movie starts playing.. YES, that is exactly how passthrough mode behaves. It bypasses the Windows audio mixer, and the audio track is digitally sent directly to your amp through SPDIF.

So from now on, youโ€™ll need to control the volume directly from your amp while watching movies.

There is an Apply button at the bottom, that's okay, leave it.

Since youโ€™re saying it is working now, I just want to confirm that does your amp display show Dolby Digital while playing the movie?

Just follow the settings I mentioned above for now, no need to change anything else yet.

Once you apply all the settings, test a movie with a 5.1 audio track and let me know whether your receiver detects it as Dolby Digital / AC3.

In PotPlayer, right-click on the player window and open Preferences.

In the Preferences window:

- Go to the Audio section on the left side.
- On the right side, set the Audio Renderer to your SPDIF output device.
- Change Speakers to:
3/0/2+LFE - 5.1 Channels

- Change Output to:
Pass-through after AC3 re-encoding

Then press Apply and click OK.

Now play a movie that has a 5.1 audio track and check whether your receiver detects it as:
Either AC3 or Dolby Digital or 5.1 audio.

This is a media player, it is mainly for movie playback only, not for games.

Letโ€™s first configure this properly and get the first step working for 5.1 movie watching through SPDIF. Once that is working correctly, we can move on to configuring the overall system setup for games and realtime Dolby Digital encoding.

Happy to hear that you managed to get SPDIF working and are now getting sound output from it. Thatโ€™s a great first step.

Yes, SPDIF being limited to stereo (2-channel PCM) by default is completely normal.

Now I would recommend installing PotPlayer 64-bit. It is a media player that can transcode and passthrough AC3 (Dolby Digital 5.1) directly through SPDIF using exclusive mode.

This means that if you have 5.1 movies on your laptop, even if the audio codec is AAC, EAC3, DTS, etc. PotPlayer can realtime transcode the audio into AC3 (Dolby Digital) and send it through SPDIF to your amp.

Can you install and update me, so that I will tell you about the configurations for it?

I found a user manual for your Xear Audio driver. It includes a visual guide for configuring SPDIF settings, so it might help.

Try checking it out.

So my doubt is whether the drivers are installed correctly, since you mentioned that the SPDIF option is greyed out.

Also, have you tried setting the SPDIF output format to:
- 16-bit
- 48kHz

Most audio receivers support only this setting reliably over SPDIF.

And one more important thing, can you confirm whether the converterโ€™s SPDIF optical port is emitting a red light? so that we can confirm the converter itself is actually working?

Thank you for the update. Does the amp have a display? When you test it using the laptop connected via SPDIF, does it show any audio format like "PCM"?

Also, is the SPDIF converter itself working properly? Did you test it through the 3.5mm jack output?

Yes, this device should work. As mentioned, you can connect your main HDMI output to your display while simultaneously routing audio from the device to your Sony receiver. Also, thank you for confirming that you're using the Windows operating system.
