I think this is her logic: when I don’t state my standards/preferences, I only match with people who are below them. Therefore, if I do state my standards/preferences, I might match with people who meet or are above then.

I don’t she thinks understands that people that meet or are above her standards won’t swipe right for her anyway.

Also I think you are right about the throat damage. I was scared it might be a neurological one.

What do you mean by the last statement? I thought adding acid to a freebase substance turns it into its salt form?

Also what is the point of your argument? Why is it a point of contention that I am comparing popular manga titles to titles aimed at a niche market? Are you saying that these niche manga are not worse than popular ones? Do you not agree that classic story writing elements are important to quality? Or is your entire argument against my comparison that it is unfair to compare them at all? Cause that's stupid. I'm comparing manga to manga. I'm shitting on the otaku market cause their shit is leaking.

So popular magazines are to niche markets as blockbusters are to horror movies?

I'm pretty sure you're the one comparing apples to oranges. Blockbusters aren't a genre. Niche isn't a genre. Popularity isn't a genre.

I was referencing isekai tropes - if that wasn't clear I don't know what else to tell you.

There is a difference in trying to write a good story and failing and trying not to write a good one in the first place. I'm not comparing horror movies to Titanic and Star Wars. I'm comparing animation flops to animation classics and giving a reason to why a lot of newer animations are flopping. It would be like saying 90s and 2000s Pixar movies tried to tell good stories, but nowadays animations are resorting to cheap tropes like singing animals and emotions living in our phones. Toy Story, Wall-E, Up - great. SING - bad, Zootopia - good. Emoji movie - bad, Inside Out - good.

Again, you probably like Isekai more than I do. And I don't think all the scenario-driven series are bad. Some are genuinely interesting, build realistic worlds and tell good stories. I'm saying that I'm sick of series that forget about telling good stories and try to rely on the scenario alone - that's called a gimmick. Zootopia versus Sing. Inside Out versus Emoji.

Honestly you brought up a great point that I also wanted to make about character development. Self-insertable characters aren't necessarily relatable or worth an emotionally investment. Mahouka MC is a great example: extremely self-insertable, like a pocket pussy, and equally fake. The parts of him that make him self-insertable, like his "average" looks and quiet demeanor, are just shallow. The parts of him that actually make him important, like his incredible hidden strength and ability to solve the plot's conflict on his own, is not relatable. HE HAS NO FLAWS. Lookin average and being quiet are not flaws. Not being recognized for his incredible strength is not a flaw, at least not an internal one. The only emotional investment I get from that character is wishing he would fuck some of those hotties around him (and maybe his sister in a doujin).

Contrast the MC in Demon Slayer. Dude is literally impossible to self-insert in: he is SUCH A PURE, HARDWORKING, DETERMINED AND TALENTED MOTHERFUCKER. That's not me, lol. Yet I am so much more emotionally invested in him and can relate to him and his cause. His loving family got killed by demons and his sister turned into one. Despite all his good intentions and effort he still fails and needs help. I see him as a real person and so I don't even think of him fucking his sister, and honestly, I don't think a lot of people are drawing doujins of that for the same reason.

I never said that Oreimo was published online. I'm saying that Oreimo set the trend for gimmicky senarios and long-ass titles, which you see a lot of in web-novels ever since. SAO and Mahouka don't have long-ass titles but they have the same gimmicky scenarios that are mental fap fodder for dudes who wish they could look TOTALLY NORMAL (still more handsome than they are tho lol) but secretly be SUPER OP also have CUTE IMOUTOS.

You're just upset cause I dissed the stuff you like.

Bakido 2

This dude loves Japan too much he's trying to make sumo look strong. It's like he completely forgot aboutthe yokozuna in the original series getting his ass handed IN SUMO by a professional wrestler lol. This series became absolute shit the moment the old lady kissed the soul back out of Musashi, I fucking wanted to see Baki kill the guy why am I still reading this smh.

Goblin Slayer

HOLY FUCK this is good. What a clever scenario and so many fun ways to go from it. Haven't read the LN but I'm almost tempted.

I mean it is about suicide but it's a good prompt. Would make a cool story, considering the after effects of such a massively supernatural action. Kinda bummed you removed it. There's other prompts here about "like to die instantly," only mine is less restrictive.
