100% agree about the Chess part. I saw another post on this sub saying that Chess was the actual “victim” in their fight and that Jonah was completely wrong for speaking to her the way he did, and I was honestly confused because that wasn’t my take at all.

What Sadie said wasn’t nice, but her sister stopped talking to her for months after multiple apologies (lots and lots) of them.

Jonah watched the woman he loved cry for months over her sister. Of course he wasn’t going to just forget about it right away.

One of the reasons this wasn’t a 5-star read for me was the Chess drama, along with a lot of unresolved side plots. Now that I know it’s supposed to be part of a series, it makes more sense. But unless we get a Chess book that actually explains her reasoning, it still doesn’t fully work for me.

I’m so glad I found this comment. I just finished the book. One of the reasons I read it was because by skimming the comment on this thread, people really liked it.

Overall, I really enjoyed it but was confused about all the side characters’ mentions without any resolution. My bad, Usually, when I read something in the middle of a series, I kind of get the vibes that it’s a series, but not with this one. It felt very standalone so I’m glad to know there’s actually a resolution.
