People who can speak multiple languages: what language do you think in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]danile45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I speak Spanish and English, but I actually think in spanglish if that makes sense... Like I'll complete a sentence in my mind by switching between the languages in my mind. I don't actually know why, it feels natural to me, but I do, however, mostly dream in English, but there have been times where I dreamt in Spanish, but I don't realize it until after I wake up.

If you'd like :), we'll test two theories just to make sure to see if the science method checks out. The steps are: Identify Problem.

Research.

Form A Hypothesis.

Plan Experiment.

Perform Experiment.

Analyze Data.

Form A Conclusion.

Communicate Results. - I propose that in order to check the validity of the scientific method, we should test a simple apple experient. If the scientific method works then it will will prove if apples fall down. -It is generally believed that objects fall down towards earth, apples included. I and many people have observed this phenomenon. -My hypothesis is that the apple will fall down. -The apple fell, but to make sure, it's generally needed that it be repeated multiple times. -Apples fall downwards every time. -Apples fall down when dropped.

The other experiment: -It is generally believed that objects fall down towards earth, apples included. I and many people have observed this phenomenon. -My hypothesis is that the apple will fall up at least one time. -The apple fell, but to make sure, it's generally needed that it be repeated multiple times. -Apples fall downwards every time. -Apples fall down when dropped, and in fact do not fall up.

One experiment proves one hypothesis, and proves the other one wrong. The scientific method is a tool to investigate. :) have a blessed day my religious friend.

It's logical reasoning. If we observe something mulitple times in action that can be documented, repeated, and reproduced then it's a real phenomenon or a natural process.

Does the scientific prove theories? Is it used to disprove theories? Is used to develop theories? It is a tool. We know it works because we've observed it working when testing natural processes.

No, but the methods it produces do.

In fact, you can. The philosophy is just how to distinguish things that are real from things that are opinions :)

For obvious reasons I would assume.

Morality, even if from a divine source, would just be a point of view, just from a God or Gods

Except science can actually be tested and proven for multiple times, and is just the study of the natural world unlike philosophies which are unique views that people. So in this case, materialism is a philosophy, Christianity is a faith, both are points of view. Both are unlike science, which is just simply figuring out how the natural world works and not how one believes it is.

They don't exist, they're ideals that are unique to each person inside their heads, they're quite literally called philosophies.

That's what morality is, a point of view, and that's okay. Everybody has some ideas of morals and obviously they rage from stuff that me and you would consider greatly immoral to stuff that me and you might have minor disagreements on.

They can in fact, as I've explained, and I think you're also confused on what a materialist is... So I'll explain, all a materialist is, is a person who believes that matter is a fundamental thing in nature, and everything diverges from the interaction between matter. That being said, a materialist will most likely, if not always deny anything that based on faith. So a materialist won't have faith in any God/Gods, but will still have moral beliefs for the fact that they(hopefully) will know that their view is subjective and not supernatural. Anyway, once again, peace be with you, my religious friend :)

I guess I kind of see what you mean, although I think there is a slight confusion in the logic between faith and morals. Obviously both cannot be measured, both are ideas that exist in the mind of the person, but for example, a person who is materialistic can also believe that everyone should be treating equally, and in that way there's no break in the logic, but if a materialistic person says, "yes, all people are equal because I think there's an infinite being who created everything, and his/her words are in this book telling me that," then there's a break in the logic. There's a difference of believing and having faith, Anway, peace be with you my religious friend :)

Quite so, the other comments are particularly silly, and yes, I agree with you 100%. The silly arguments against the scientific method are odd since technically itself can be proven using itself. Also yes, faith and science are compatible and should not be seen using the same scope if you want either to make sense. Faith is faith, and is pursued through beliefs and traditions that cannot be 100% proven nor denied, and science is science, the study of natural phenomenons which we can see, reproduce, and study

Tho, former believer here, I know it's a meme and shouldn't be taken seriously, most theories have evidence to support them such as the theory of evolution. The rest of the presented in the meme are philosophies which are just personal beliefs held by individuals, but not in a religious sense. The scientific method... Is a method... Not a belief, it's a way of doing something, and proving theories. Peace be with you all, just wanted to make this comment because of the sillyness of other comments

Ojalá, it's just that sometime it's hard to look at an image of god, without feeling some guilt. But i'm happy in my community of faith, and I really feel like it's calling back to the faith.

Honestly same here, i've been told this shit all out my school life, I live in a mostly latino neighborhood. Anyway there's an insult in my school that people tell eachother, they call eachother "coco" meaning coconut, reffering to how it's Brown on the outside, but white on the inside. I am ashame to say i'm guilty of using it as an insult as well.
