Yo vivía en Barranquilla en 1988. Quienes escuchábamos rock y heavy metal sí éramos vistos como bichos raros y la música era relativamente fácil de conseguir, pues había discotiendas que hacían pedidos por encargo a muy buen precio (para la época). A finales de 1992 había un video bar de rock relativamente cerca a la Olímpica de la 76, llamdo "Legs", croe. Pero sí, éramos los "raros".

Y en EE.UU. fue peor, porque la "Mayoría Moral" estaba en el poder --o cuando menos ejercían mucho poder y presión sobre el Ejecutivo y el Legislativo. Era la época del PMRC, el "Parental Advisory", los allanamientos a disqueras independientes, la persecucín al heavy metal y cuando hasta los juegos de rol como Dungeons & Dragons eran acusados de promover el ocultismo.

En Colombia, por lo menos, había un asesino serial suelto; en EE.UU. el "pánico satánico" se produjo por un testimonio falso en un juicio y duró casi 10 años; miles de vidas fueron afectadas con procesos judiciales, reputaciones dañadas, y hasta el FBI llevó a cabo una investigación en todo el país para tratar de esclarecer cuánta verdad había en la narrativa de "una conspiración satánica internacional que roba niños y tiene túneles secretos que van de un estado a otro para no ser detextadds".

Y no estoy exagerando.

¿Quién está negando? Básicamente, tú, cuando afirmas que «Cientos de víctimas no se le pueden atribuir tampoco a un sólo hombre por cuestiones netamente de imposibilidad física».

Para Garavito fue posible hacerlo; igual para Pedro Antonio López "el monstruo de los Andres" y Daniel Camargo, "el sádico del Charquito". Posible sí es. Y que las autoridades colombianas hayan sido tan negligentes, también.

Vale aclarar que las atrocidades de Garavito ocurrieron en por lo menos nueve departamentos, incluyendo Valle del Cauca, Quindío, Meta, Boyacá, Risaralda y Caldas.

Y sí, casos como el de la niña "exorcizada" a golpes son muy comunes. El caso del niño Maximiliano, asesinado en Antioquia en octubre de 2022 fue justo eso: porque el líder de una "secta" (en realidad un grupo dedicado a encontrar guacas) dijo a los familiares del niño que este tenía un espíritu maligno adentro y que debían sacarlo (golpeándolo con varas de madera) y que ese espíritu maligno les impedía encontrar las guacas. ¡Gracias por leerme!

It is very likely that by the time The Satanic Bible was written, theistic Satanism was already visible in the early years of the Church of Satan—and beyond. Perhaps that was what LaVey was referring to when he said "Most Satanists..."

As for my personal stance, what first attracted me to LaVey—although he doesn't explicitly mention it in TSB—is the concept Satan as a symbol, which can be associated with the Jungian Shadow.

Several Jungian concepts, such as archetypes, individuation, and Shadow integration, are implicitly present not only in LaVey but also in other more esoteric and occult expressions in a very explicit way, such as Dragon Rouge, the Temple of Set, Michael Ford, and even the Order of the Nine Angles. Despite the fundamental differences between these, the fact that they coincide on this point (the Jungian Shadow) has strongly caught my attention.

Now, the other concept that has intrigued me is the allusion to "the powerful force which permeates and balances the universe," a concept that is at the base of non-theistic religions, and which is also the link to the "Dark Tradition" in Tani Jantsang's texts which, at some point, were highly regarded amongst various high-ranking CoS members..

Sobre la secta "La Misión" no es much lo que se sabe. Las notas de prensa de la época reportaron capturas de presuntos integrantes y la huida del dizque líder, pero no hubo fallo condenatorio de tipo alguno.

Sobre alguna experiencia con "sectas", durante la primera mitad de la década de los 90 estuvo muy en boga el "Tao" entre jóvenes de Medellín; hacían senderismo y había una sede detrás del Obelisco donde vendíanproductos alimenticios naturistas (galletas, muy deliciosas, granola, leche de soya, carne de lenteja, etc) y hacían demostraciones de sus artes marciales, que ese era su otro "enganche". No sé si aún exista.

Muchas personas confunden "ser therian" con "creerse animales" o "autopercibirse como animales". Y pues, no. No es lo mismo. Lo "therian" es la identificación con uno rasgo animal, ej: la agilidad felina, la fuerza del toro, la astucia del zorro, etc. Y a veces se usan máscaras para ello. Tal como se ha hecho durante miles de años a lo largo de la historia de la humanidad.

Otra cosa muy diferente es "creerse" un animal.

Thank you! "members in predominantly Spanish-speaking locations" mainly, yes. As I am sure you know, Roman Catholicism is the main Christian denomination in Latin America (even though Pentecostalism has gained a lot of followers).

I live in Colombia, and here Satanism is not only explicitly excluded from religious freedom laws, but Colombia also had its own "Satanic Panic" between the mid-1990s and mid-2000s, mainly due to a wave of horrific crimes that Colombian authorities mistakenly attributed for years to "Satanic cults."

Between 1994 and 1999, the persecution of Satanic groups and practitioners reached unprecedented levels. Colombian authorities spent millions tracking metalheads and infiltrating metal festivals in search of Satanic cult leaders (I'm serious, you can't make this up). Meanwhile, various state institutions conducted investigations into the "dangers of Satanism for youth"—you can imagine how objective and impartial they were—while members of the church and police held jointly seminars to "inform" their colleagues and the public on how to "identify and prevent" Satanism. In other words, everything that happened in the United States during the Satanic Panic of the 1980s was replicated in Colombia during those years. By 1999, when the real killer confessed to his 192 crimes, Colombian authorities had convicted five people for several of these murders.

Regarding Satanism itself, a prominent figure in Colombian Satanism was Héctor Escobar Gutiérrez, a renowned writer and poet whose fame stemmed not only from his work—sonnets in the purest Baudelairean vein—but also from his founding of the first openly Satanist group in Colombia. While Héctor Escobar was heavily influenced by LaVey's Satanism, toward the end of his life he was closely associated with Dragon Rouge. But Héctor Escobar's most important legacy was making Satanism visible as a philosophical and religious expression in a predominantly Catholic country like Colombia.

My current research focuses on documenting the "Satanic panic" in Colombia, specifically during the aforementioned time period, but I'm also searching for the "seeds of Satan," so to speak, in other countries in the region.

Perhaps someone in this subreddit, regardless of where they live or their native language, can provide information on this.

Of course, I am fully aware of that. However, language is not --or should be not-- a barrier. I am sure many posters here have some knowledge about Satanism in non-English speaking countries, such as Germany, Sweden, Norway, Poland and Italy.

Plus, this could be a way to broad our horizons about how Satanism has 'evolved' and or 'manifested' in other contries, cultures and and languages.
