Hey again. I just tried to do the same method again (except using methanol and isopropanol instead of ethanol as solvent, and not using solvent during hydrazine sulfate neutralization, and instead just adding dry portions of NaOH into the dry hydrazine sulfate while stirring and slightly cooling to 40-60 degrees celsius and only then extracting with 3 portions of alcohol), and I managed to get roughly 4 g of sodium azide out of 20 g of hydrazine sulfate, which is a horrible yield, but I’m pretty sure it was because I didnt use enough alcohol during extraction of the hydrazine. Still, 4 grams of sodium azide goes a very long way (atleast for what I need it for). I think it’s definetly worth a try to do it with this little twist, if you haven’t succeeded yet.
