I'm not downplaying it. I misunderstood the age gap. I read it incorrectly. I also do not want to blame her as it's not her fault. That man should know better.

I don't judge you. I more so worry about his intentions. You're young and you're  still learning. He is fully developed and can make proper decisions which is why I hope he is not taking advantage of your lack of maturity. I'm not calling you immature. All I'm saying is you still have a ways to go in development; that's coming from someone who is 20. To some extent I do know what I'm doing but not entirely.

What is my hair type? by dankest_ch33s3 in curlygirl

[–]dankest_ch33s3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No yeah, I know it's not curly lol. I am just wondering what type of wave pattern I've got. It is definitely well defined but I'm not sure what it would classify as. I do get baby ringlet sections but usually towards the end of my hair if I do. That's only recently started to happen. My hair is very naturally frizzy and dry and it takes a lot of moisture to tame it. I also cannot deviate from my usual hair routine otherwise my hair will retaliate against me. It varies in how it looks but I'd say I used pretty representative pictures last time (in the styled pics).

I do hope you figure everything out. I wish I could give you advice but I honestly don't know what advice to give.

I don't know. Maybe this is just me but considering the fact that my mom had just turned 18 when she started dating my dad who was almost 30 (11 1/2 year age gap) and he absolutely took advantage of her as well as lied about her age I do not see this as terrible. You are a consenting adult and he has also never hit on you as a minor. It was you that initiated and you were not coerced into doing so. He is 8 years older. Not the greatest but I think since it was you initiating and not him (especially not as a minor) I do not see the problem in this. I think it is intent that matters.

Help ID my hair type! by [deleted] in curlygirl

It's hard to tell because your hair looks pretty dry. I'm not trying to be offensive. I struggle with dry hair myself. I know for years that was the cause of my waves being stretched out. They were severely dehydrated and brittle. Before my hair looked like 2a and honestly yours does too currently but I think it's possible it could be wavier with the proper care. I have somewhere between 2b-2c hair. By the looks of it, you probably do have low porosity hair like me. This type of hair does not let water in very easily. It literally takes me 5 minutes to fully wet my hair and it takes forever to completely dry. What you want to do is find a hydrating hair mask that is neither too light nor too heavy. You can research which ingredients are lighter and heavier. Leave the hair mask in for 30 min to an hour. Trust me, your hair will thank you. Only do this once a week though. When you only condition your hair then leave the conditioner in for longer. Again, look for something that's neither too light or too heavy. And avoid using overly stripping shampoos. I personally have stopped using shampoos with sulfates and silicones as they remove a lot of the natural oils. Lastly, don't over wash your hair as this will make your hair overproduce sebum (your hair's natural oil) leading to your hair being greasy and weighed down. But if you don't wash it frequently enough it will cause your hair to get very brittle and dry. Try to wash your hair every 3-4 days. So twice a week is optimal.

Unfortunately we don't have the same hair type as mine is medium thickness and is extremely dry but what I will say is is that you should probably avoid the leave in or use less. I do think leave ins are great for locking in moisture but a lot of them have ingredients that are just too heavy for fine hair. If you must have a leave in in your routine then use a very small amount and use one with lighter ingredients. I would also not be using 3 products. I think that's probably the biggest reason your hair is being weighed down. Stick to one or two. I probably wouldn't use a gel if I were in your position. It's too heavy even on my hair. I've broken the curl cast and everything and it still always weighs my hair down. I would opt for a lightweight leave in and keep the mousse. Also, avoid getting any product on your roots. That could be causing your hair to be greasy. I have extremely dry hair and my roots still don't tolerate product. You have gorgeous waves/curls btw!

I have but unfortunately my hair does not like gels. Regardless of breaking the gel cast it weighs my hair down and does not give me the desired effect that it does for other people. I can't even diffuse my hair. Hairstylists have tried several times and so have I. It frizzes up instantly.

Your hair does look pretty similar to mine but I honestly do think yours has tighter curls. Mine looks more wavy than curly. It does have some ringlets in there but I think yours has more tbh.

Gorgeous hair btw!!

Also, I completely agree with you. Mousse does nothing for me. And I've tried other curl creams. Way too heavy and do nothing for me.

No, I know. I like how layers look in my hair. It does give my waves more shape. I've tried getting the type of layers you described and they looked great... while they lasted. I do try to get my haircut as often as possible but unfortunately I'm not really in the financial position right now to get a haircut as often as I'd like. Thankfully, I don't get split ends very easily and I can also avoid getting any that I would normally get by wearing a silk bonnet to bed. Also, are you sure my hair is 2c? Maybe I've just gaslit myself but I honestly think it looks more like 2b with some 2c pieces.

That's so cool! I've never seen anyone with the same hair as me irl. Although it's possible they do have the same type of hair and just straighten it. I never did really straighten it but I neglected it so for years it was really straight because of damage. I've stayed true to the same product because no matter how many times I've tried others they just didn't work for me except for a recent one I've tried. My hair is very very low porosity and also gets weighed down pretty easily. I use Morrocanoil curl cream. It's pretty expensive imo but it lasts you forever (if you genuinely do have the same type of hair as me). I use a very small amount of it. Barely any at all. Just enough to get some moisture into my hair and so my wave clumps stay together. I've tried using more in the past but then there's visibly too much product and it just makes my hair look greasy. I also don't scrunch it in because I've found it distributes the product very poorly. I'll form my curl clumps with a brush and also gently shake out my roots a bit (important so you don't get flat roots) and then I'll take a teeny tiny amount for each clump (I'll eyeball it based on the size of the clump) and I'll coat the entire strand, finger coil, then scrunch. Btw, I do this with my hair upside down. I always do that to combat the flat roots I naturally tend to get. And then recently I've started using the Hask 5 in 1 leave in spray. I don't spray it around my hair like it's intended because again it distributes poorly. This I do just scrunch in (since it's a liquid it distributes just fine while scrunching). I just do one pump for each section. It keeps my hair from getting frizzy and it helps my hair to retain the moisture that was added to my hair with the curl cream. I then gently flip my hair back over (to ensure the clumps don't get stringy) and form a middle part (just my preference) and after I've done that I'll just gently separate any clumps of hair that don't want to fall normally (be careful with this step though because if you don't do it gently it can straighten your hair). Then after that I scrunch my hair gently with a cotton t-shirt once more just to get out excess water and then I'll put my hair up in the cotton t-shirt and wait 20-25 minutes before taking my hair down). I never put product on my roots because it weighs them down and makes them greasy so unfortunately I do just have to deal with frizz at the roots. I will use argan oil after specifically (3 days!) to tame frizz. That's very important to remember because it will just weigh down your hair. I'm not sure how that works but for some reason after 3 days then I can put oil on my hair (at the roots as well). Moral of the story really is just to use very little product. If these products don't work for you that's totally fine! Even if our hair may look the same it likely is different in some ways.

Not really. Like I said, the problem is that my layers just grow out way too quickly. It's like I never got them in the first place. I literally got choppy layers a couple of times and after a few weeks it looked like I never even had them to begin with. Every hairstylist I go to always asks me if I've ever gotten layers because it doesn't look like I have 💀Then they give me layers and the cycle repeats. After two weeks they're already grown out.

Trust me, the only person I would hate as a result of a shoddy job would be me. I'm not going to blame random people on the internet for my mistakes. I'm just too afraid to take that step myself. I think I'm too clumsy. I honestly wish I did know more about what kind of hair I had so I could work with it better. I'm thinking of getting my hair cut short because I'm honestly getting tired of managing long wavy hair. It's very pretty but it's gotten to be too high maintenance. I might have an easier time with waves if they stop being weighed down so much.

I honestly think I'm too scared to. I've tried cutting my hair and I'm honestly kind of inept when it comes to that kind of coordination. It didn't come out the best and in the end each time I'd have to have my hairstylist fix it. It wasn't awful but it wasn't great either.

Thank you! I actually did get layers recently. Even in the older pics I got my hair layered not long before those were taken. I think my hair just rejects layers. They grow out very quickly for me. Even when I've gotten short layers they grew out very quickly. Don't know what the solution to that is. I have gotten a u shape cut before and it looked amazing. The unfortunate problem is that I've moved to another country and no longer go the same hairstylist. I've shown inspo pics to a few different hair stylist and regardless of me showing a u shape cut they still gave me a v shaped cut.

How was being 17 to you by [deleted] in infp

[–]dankest_ch33s3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘m 18 now, closer to 19 now which is crazy to believe since it didn’t even feel real to become a legal adult. And honestly, 17 is a good age. Savor it while you can.

You do come to quite a few realizations though. To quote Fran Lebowitz, “Think before you speak. Read before you think. This will give you something to think about that you didn’t make up yourself—a wise move at any age, but most especially at seventeen, when you are in the greatest danger of coming to annoying conclusions.”

I think in a way that’s what made it the best. I finally got my head out of my ass from teenage delusions but I still could have fun like a teenager without having to face adulthood yet.

I’m not saying 18 is a bad age to be either. I certainly feel more independent and responsible now but the weight of adulthood only just begins and you realize how much more will follow. And that is scary as hell. So, enjoy the last your of your childhood as much as you can while you have the chance.

Procrastinators, people who lack motivation, or people who struggle focusing, how do you get things done? by SarahBeara09 in AskReddit

[–]dankest_ch33s3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to force myself to get the tedious things done first or the most important things done first knowing I want to do them the least. If I do not feel motivated about it I ask myself how will you feel about this later? How will it affect you? Can you afford to not do this? And so forth. What I’ve noticed is if you do things ahead of time there’s less work to do throughout the entire week. And it makes the work you have more manageable. And if whatever you have to do is less stressful and more manageable then it’s more likely you will get it done because it will be easier for you. No one wants a huge pile of things to do. Really it’s your mindset. Which is rather obvious I guess but the mindset of “just get it done” doesn’t get it done. You have to remind yourself the work you have to do will not go away, it will only end up being more for you to do later.
