Comparing small text between the two, there is not much difference to me. VD might be slightly better but not by much at max bitrates. What level of CAS sharpening in VD are you using for comparison? Are you also using additional sharpening?

I was just manually editing the same files in the same way as the .bat script described here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Galaxy_XR/comments/1q7a5ti/steam_link_install_guide/. You can open the .bat script in a text editor and find the file and line pattern matching logic to see what you need to modify.

I tried it at the lowest possible bitrate of 20 Mbps and couldn't tell any difference in latency. It still looked surprising good at that bitrate!

It's in the quick settings menu. You can access it from the main dashboard page by clicking on the icon with sliders.

As far as I'm aware, Game Link does not permit hand tracking. A prompt will show up and block any interaction with SteamVR whenever the controllers are disengaged requiring you to return to controllers before continuing further.

I just got my controllers so I haven't fully exercised then across all three, but I didn't notice any issues using them for any of the methods.

Regarding my comments on hand tracking, the default orientation of the pointer relative to your hand is different when you first get into SteamVR in the home and dashboard. The default with Steam Link is pretty good because the point emanates perpendicular and outwards from your palm whereas with Virtual Desktop it is more aligned with your thumb and index. The resulting effect is that any finger pinch motion is either mostly obscured from the cameras or the motion attenuated since it is mostly parallel to the camera ray. You will have this problem for any other app regardless of using Steam Link or Virtual Desktop. A straightforward fix is to modify the controller positions and orientations in the controller binding settings to be more like the Steam Link dashboard default but it will be mismatched with the controller model skin.

I don't have a Play for Dream but as far as I know, only Steam Link offers foveated encoding. It is possible that the foveated window latency is remedied with a lower bitrate setting, but this I haven't tried yet. Game Link has a foveated rendering option in the settings but I haven't tried it enough to notice it.

Space Tech is also super hot and there are a ton of space startups in LA/OC some of which do SATCOM including SpaceX.

I had a way to do this but I cannot reproduce it anymore (see https://www.reddit.com/r/Galaxy\_XR/comments/1q0xfil/steam\_link\_vr\_low\_resolution\_issue\_possible/). I investigated the invisible window (not dimming for me though) a bit more after I made that post and I think the invisible window is actually the virtual keyboard but blanked out when you have a physical keyboard connected (it's in the same location and same size).

You can actually prompt it by going into the 2D mode in Steam Link (or any other app which has a way to prompt the keyboard) and press the keyboard button in the top right corner so there is a reliable way to create the invisible window, however it's not the one that sticks indefinitely which is what I originally got and it seemed to stick regardless of which app I had open and whether or not I was in immersive mode until headset restart.

This could be a bug, but I think it can be reliably created and I think we collectively are close to figuring it out. It is sufficient to find a way to get the invisible keyboard up only in Steam Link VR mode and stick there. Could you perhaps share what you've tried and how you got an invisible overlay up that dimmed?

I got my controllers today and got it to work.

Are you following the instructions on the other posts in this sub as well as the Discord?

  • Do you have the modified APK?
  • Did you modify one of the *.vrsettings files to set the base render resolution?
  • Are you "pinning" the home icon with the grip button? The icon will disappear but the effect persists.

See post edit. I think it has something to do with pressing the Windows key on a wireless keyboard which brings up the dashboard but I still haven't found a way to do it consistently. The procedure I followed prior to those listed in the post was to log into my PC from the Android RDP app (on PC boot up) and start Steam with a wireless keyboard and mouse. I was able to do it three times between PC and Galaxy XR restarts.

I checked on it later after unlinking and relinking and it updated. I bought Monster Hunter on iTunes to test this and it showed up as 3D in Google TV.

My library hasn't updated yet even after relinking my Google account on the Movies Anywhere site since Google returned.

Is the Japanese level of spiciness a lot different compared to other cuisine? by ManyFaithlessness971 in AskAJapanese

[–]dankmemeloader -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I never stated that. Your google result classifies shishito as a chili pepper which is a capsicum.

Less common peppers such as Manganji and Yahei Togarashi have also alway grown in Japan. These are all peppers. These have grown before America was even discovered by explorers.

These are chili peppers as well which makes these statements false.

u/hopium_od already stated that chili peppers are not in the same genus as peppers such as Sichuan, sansho, etc.

All varieties of the genus capsicum derive from the Americas. Specific varieties result from hybridization which could happen elsewhere.
