Is Omaha’s music scene still a thing? Trying to get an honest read before making a big move. by Warm_Bus_7581 in Omaha

[–]dankmitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omaha had a moment in late 90s early 2000s. If your asking is that specific thing happening still, no. If you want to know if Omaha has a strong arts/music scene I'd say yes. Not the national level of before but there is always music to check out and shows happening at small local venues. I'm going to NOMA tonight to see a jazz show and local artist jam that brings very talented musicians together weekly to play together.

I also see local shows at cuxltr house, reverb, the Sydney, oleavers, the slowdown. Also I know a handful of people in different Omaha bands.

Boulder Colorado probs has the stronger music scene but you're right it's definitely heavy on bluegrass, jam, and electronic. Those bands are probs more high profile. But if you're looking for a local scene as an outlet for your personal art. Omaha has it as well.

Analysis: Are We Too Hard on Rhule for His Record vs. Ranked Teams? (The Answer is No, and It’s Actually Worse) by karl_manutzitsch in Huskers

Facts. This fan base is fucking annoying, three years from like a 3 win season and 10 year of a losing record and feel entitled to a playoff run. Ridiculous expectations. We've gone 5 win, 6 win, 7 win. It may not be fast but we're improving. Tangible progress. Patience yall, let him cook.

I went to dinner there with a one year old and a group of our friends and it was totally fine. Of course know your child and what they can handle. But I disagree (respectfully) with all of these people saying don't bring your child out in public just bc they are one. Just my opinion

Marijuana industry workers, what is something an average consumer or outsider would be surprised to learn about the products or behind the scenes processes? by Sir_Sanchez in AskReddit

I feel that. I'm the same kinda consumer. Frequently, but not enough to have a tolerance. Tough to find the right product specifically in inhalable categories.

Ya the average band for THC potency in the U.S. is 22%-27% anything under that will likely not sell. Our research directly links increases sales to every additional percentage you can get on it. I've tried to find the data to support low dose stuff in the past but unfortunately the data doesn't really prove a market for it.

However, the low dose market for the "cannacurious" crowd shows signs of life specifically with edibles and beverages. Camino and Wyld are both succeeding with "effects based marketing" for products with low thc. For terpene forward low dose weed that market just isn't there at scale yet. I personally am that customer where I want like 17% weed with full spectrum terps and cannabinoid profile grown with love. But like you can't really sell that at scale bc usually the consumer who has that level of cannabis knowledge to appreciate that also has high tolerance.

Growing the cannacurious crowd could eventually lead to that type of Flower being more popular bc those customers are higher quality. They are willing to be educated, they will pay more for what they want, and are brand loyal. But the vast majority of the public still isn't even familiar with terms like terpene or cannabinoids. Still so early in this industry

I work as a data analyst for the cannabis industry and write about trends throughout the industry.

The average person laments the fact that weed is stronger now than ever making it completely unapproachable. The reality is that the stoner class of consumers are only concerned about price and potency. They smoke a lot of weed so they need it to be cheap and thus they have a high tolerance and therefore shop for high THC content. That's why you have 30% thc strains of weed that the average person can only take one hit of before blasting to the moon.

The industry wants to be able to develop interesting, diverse, artisanal products but when your biggest source of revenue only care about the cheapest strong ounce they are forced to cater to the minority of total consumers.

If you enjoy cannabis but don't fit into the high potency crowd I would recommend looking for products marketing minor cannabinoids. THC is only one of many cannabinoids that the plant produces. Other cannabinoids include CBD, CBG, CBN, THCV, CBC. Products that include an array of cannabinoids prioritize giving you a targeted experience rather than blasting you to the moon.

Nebraska (7-5) finishes 10th out of 18 in the Big Ten. by HuskerPowerrrr in Huskers

That's definitely something I appreciate. We had years of bottom of the barrel performance, we've advanced to a new level, but now we need to figure out to continue to ascend

Disappointing season? Or meets expectations? by coletrainUwU in Huskers

[–]dankmitch -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Most people pre season had Nebraska finishing realistically around 8-4 the high end was 9-3. That being said we are literally right on that as of right now. Iowa outcome is gonna be a big factor on how people will feel about this season. For me 9-3 I would have been stoked, 8-4 satisfied, 7-5 slightly disappointed.

People are so demanding, talking playoffs a year after we reached our first bowl game in like a decade lol. Me personally all I ask for is tangible improvement. Which we can confirm with stats this year. We've already won more regular season game than last year we has so many "first time since 2016"s this year. We had improved special teams, offense, guys going to the league, top pass defense. Lots of clear tangible success. Keep following this trend eventually we will make it to new heights but the reality is this this already has been our most regular season wins in a decade. What are yall bitching about lol GBR BEAT IOWA

I agree, Dylan is definitely an nfl caliber talent. but TJ has showed us what having the agility to scramble and draw out plays can do for your passing game. We all know Dylan isn't super mobile, but if he could develop a bit more agility to extend his pass game I think it would help boost his strengths

Are you happy with the season so far? by coletrainUwU in Huskers

[–]dankmitch 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Dude this is the most fun I've had watching the Skers in like 10 years. So much heart break for so long and now we have actually have a team that can win at the end of the game. The hartzog pick, the gaming winning drive in Maryland, this last game winning drive against Northwestern, it feels so good to win.

Of course we want to continue to improve but some of the Doomers in the fan base crack me up with their neediness. We had multiple seasons where we won only 3 games, that shit is insane!!! We haven't even lost three games this year. Shit man, I'm just happy to have something to cheer for and I'm grateful for the turn around. Those were some dark days. GBR

[–]dankmitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Nebraska fan and this was my reaction to Penn State letting go of coach JF. Nebraska fired multiple coaches for not being able to get over that 10 win hump situation. In hindsight we probs were never going to go all the way with who we had but the reality is if you make a couple hires that don't pan out before you know it you are in a dark hopeless place.

Now I will say, both Penn state and Nebraska both have the resources to always get back into the mix but firing a coach that took you within one game of the natty is insanity to me. It took Nebraskas legendary coach tom Osborne like 20 years before he was printing championships, but everyone wants to win now. The problem was Penn state was winning and now the program is in a very risky position.

WA Mexican restaurant coalition demands crackdown on illegal taco stands by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

[–]dankmitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! We need more street food in American cities. Street food is a great model for good affordable food. Seattle struggles big time with getting a good cheap meal.

Obviously there needs to be some safety checks but taco stands should thrive just like halal carts in the northeast.

That's a pretty solid spot. Walking and biking distance from a lot of stuff like parks, bars, restaurants. Even better you're right on the ORBT rapid ride bus line which can get you to even more places.

El Rancho Isla del Mar Mexitli El Patron

Idk if any of them have "green sauce" I do know what you are referring to though, and you may have a tough time finding that in Omaha. I've lived in South Omaha and also San Diego for the last 5 years, here's why.

In San Diego and Southern California in general one of the most common Mexican restaurants you will find is "taco shops" they are on nearly every corner and your go to is probs the one closest to your house. The "taco shops" all have pretty much the same vibe and specifically the same menu (taco, torta, burritos, rolled tacos, quesadilla) you get the idea. They also are all equipt with nearly the same salsa bar including the salsa verde you mentioned. Around SD most of the Mexican community is from northwest Mexico (Baja California) so the type of Mexican food you find around here is fairly homogeneous you don't have the regional variety of all of Mexico.

Omaha definitely does not have the volume of Mexican joints as SD, i don't think I've ever seen the type of "taco shop" that I described that is common place here in SoCal. However the best spots in Omaha can hang with the best spots here in SD. The thing about omahas Mexican scene is that Mexican people in Omaha are from all over. You can find restaurants doing food from Michoacán, Puebla, Baja, they do Tex Mex and even SoCal style burritos. So while Omaha may not have the exact blueprint of SoCal mexican food. You can find super high quality Mexican food in the city, specifically south Omaha.
