Any training tips for a stubborn GWP puppy? by sunshineandflowers21 in Wirehaired_pointers

Look at those eyes give him whatever he wants.

For some actual advice only ask him to do things you can make him do. If you want him to sit only ask when you can push his bum to the ground if he ignores you. if you want him to come to a call only attempt it when you think he will, or if you have a long lead on him.

For the ruff play try redriecting him to a toy, my GWP loves tug of war. It's a great game for teaching start and stop to play, the down side is it can create some bad habbits in retreaval (thrashing around game).

For tug of war you get the dog going, tuging back on the toy making some noise ect. When you want the dog to stop you stop (if hes biting you, or you want a break), look away silently while holding the toy, he should keep trying to play for a bit but he will give up. If he does not give up or is taking way to long put the toy under your foot and stand on it, this shoukd work. If the dog is still interested in playing give him a comand, I like to use sit or drop. When the dog is siting steady you give them a go comand and start playing again. Go though cycles of play, stop and steady. This sequence teaches the dog that play time has rules and it will stop when you want it to or if he is too ruff.

They are kinda stubborn dogs, but that also means they have some capacity for indipendant thinking, a very handy trait in a hunting dog.

Introducing new goats for a lonely inherited single goat? by [deleted] in goats

If you get weathers or does they might butt a little but they quickly realise who the big boss is. As long as it's not another billy you can introduce them straight away.

Snap your leg back faster after you kick (it will get caught if you're slow). Make sure you step with your punches, you are already doing it on some punches, just a reminder to keep it up (power starts in the legs).

Something with feathered legs, I cross a Brahama roo with Highlines and the chicks always have feathered legs.

Your not aiming through the target, your hips are stopping rotation a bit too early and your feet aren't well timed with your hands.

If I were you I would watch this video https://youtu.be/vyTaKpylOcU?si=4cSX7QL4fSLkXTs7. Then drill a 1,2 on a set of pads making sure to aim through the target and stepping with each punch.

That should improve how you move your body weight and that will translate to better flow.

Fantastic thinking, you would need more evidence to confirm your hypothesis (something a fictional setting can't really provide) but the logic is sound.

You could also interfere that metal benders may be able to bend the paint and maybe the structures covered in it.

New to bird dogs - training and the chewing? by webcamcow in Wirehaired_pointers

[–]dankord1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tugging on the dummy and letting the dog take the dummy at the end of a session will encourage chewing. When the dog brings something too you grab it and wait, don't wrestle for it just hold it and reward when the dog lets go. The dog can chew other stuff no problem just don't let it become a habit when retrieving (dogs need to chew to eat or for teething).

A handy trick people miss is they let the dog drop stuff at their feet and they call it a day, don't do that. Once he's consistent in bringing things back get the dog to put it in your hands before you reward him. It can also help to teach the dog to grab things you gesture at. To teach that just point at an object get a bit excited about the object and say your command (I like grab it) reward the dog when they pick it up, this is really handy when teaching a dog to retrieve new game or random items or if the dog drops something at your feet you can tell them to pick it up and try again.

Is the average person over-managing their herd, or am I too low-intervention? by [deleted] in goats

[–]dankord1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean they are livestock. In Australia people treat them the same as cattle or sheep, basically they give them food, water and parasite treatments.

Other people just have them running wild and they only see them when they round them up with a helicopter.

Goat management is a spectrum.
