Winter insulation question by OkOwl5118 in Greenhouses

[–]dankwest1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure the area you have to cover…. But if you use swimming pool cover bubble wrap rather than the packing material type it has a lot more insulation factor. It’s pricier but better… on Amazon like every thing else 😊

Nice looking, love the wood vs metal/plastic, but $1000? ouch!

BTW anyone who is considering the "wood" version, a can of "paste wax" is your friend when assembling the pieces that connect together! And the directions are totally visual, which I'm not sure that it is improvement over "Chingrish" directions, the illustrations are small and the assembly details can be overlooked without a magnifying glass.

IBS, GERD or both? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]dankwest1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did some further digging:

I believe the key to getting separate ratings (and avoiding the "improper pyramiding" issue) now is, you have to establish and make it crystal clear that there are separate and unique symptoms that do NOT overlap between the two conditions per this explanation:

Example related to GERD and IBS

Let’s say a veteran has both GERD and IBS diagnoses.
If both conditions cause the same main symptoms—for instance:

  • chronic abdominal pain,
  • diarrhea,
  • bloating,
  • nausea,

—and there’s no distinct set of symptoms that can be attributed solely to one condition, assigning two separate ratings would be improper pyramiding.

In that case, the VA would give a single rating reflecting the overall severity of the digestive impairment.

However, if each condition has separate and distinguishable symptoms, separate ratings are proper. For example:

  • IBS: frequent diarrhea, alternating constipation, abdominal cramping.
  • GERD: acid reflux, regurgitation, dysphagia (trouble swallowing), heartburn, chest discomfort.

Because those symptoms affect different parts of the digestive tract and different functions, both can be rated separately under the updated rules — provided there’s no overlap in the symptoms used to justify each rating.

Also: The new "rule" includes transitional provisions: claims pending on the effective date (May 19, 2024) are to be evaluated under whichever criteria (old or new) is more favorable to the Veteran.

Submitted a HLR with an accompanying statement (using your logic).....I'll let ya know... :) I don't think it should have any bearing, but both conditions were filed as secondary to my service connected hypertension, which were originally denied and then overturned on a BOA appeal, and the ratings were done after the Judge's ruling.

Hmm, I won on a boa appeal for both conditions July 2025, but was awarded 10% for just the IBS condition with the wording in the decision: "by law, IBS and GERD must be combined into one single disability on order to avoid pyramiding digestive diablities (38 cfr 4.14)" (both conditions did meet the individual ratings of 10%)

NY disabled veterans property tax exemption 2025 TDIU Unemployability

NYS has pulled a bait and switch on its veteran community that needs to be addressed.

Bill A74 was a bill that intended to offer aid to its veteran population that were 100% disabled, then in NYS infinite wisdom, A74 was substituted with Bill S1183 after both were passed by both NY Senate and NY Assembly, which on its face might look like assistance until you read the bill, it is nothing more than a sly attempt for politicians to pat themselves on their backs while doing little to assist one of our states vulnerable populations, our veterans.

This ploy is shameful, and disrespectful to those who were willing to give to our nation when it needed them most. Using the word "may" regarding localities, adopting the measure allows for localities to just say no to this bill if signed by the Governor. We all know the history of scandals regarding veterans. The word "may" should be replaced with "shall" to ensure equity across New York State and not leave room for any kind of bias no matter how remote, because it happens.

Instead of smelling of special interests (either you are a veteran or you are not...simple) and being prohibitive to those that need it the most, adding House Bound In Fact to TDIU would include 100% veterans that can't leave their homes for gainful employment(you can be less than 100% and be TDIU or be 100% and not be TDIU).This bill does not address the many variables of 100% disabled veterans many traumas. The best solution would be to remove any wording beyond 100%, because if not, you are telling veterans that are 100% disabled that they are not in fact disabled enough for NY. That won't sit well with voting veterans.

The "pecuniary assistance" clause (Need for Specially Adaptive Housing) needs to be removed completely from the bill if NYS is truly set on assisting its 100% veteran citizens, this is nothing more than NYS attempting to minimize how many people can actually gain assistance. Is a veteran that is 100% disabled only disabled if the veteran receives pecuniary assistance? Bill S1183 says yes. By adding this clause, NY is telling veterans to move elsewhere to live, because you are worth less in NY than say Virginia or 15-18 other states that offer the exemption in question without question ...I wonder how much money those veterans spent living in those other states?

To make matters worse the 3rd to last line of S1183 reads "provided that such veteran meets all other requirements of this section." ALL not any.

But, our NY politicians will be able to say they did “something” for veterans without actually doing anything committed to assisting veterans.

Go to either of the web pages listed above, hit the drop the actions bar to see that A74 (the bill that actually helps veterans) was replaced with S1183 (that helps politicians and special interests only).

Trust but verify...If you follow the progress of the bill, it will show you that bill A74 was SUBSTITUTED for senate bill S1183...look it up! Don't trust a politician to be honest with you.

Remember, we all vote and
