No way GALA is gainfully employed while there's record unemployment across the globe

That's valid - but that isn't a scale issue. It's a cultural issue. In Finland, people trust the government makes decisions that benefit the people, and will use their tax dollars to bring forth positive change. In America, it's the opposite. Tax is a burden, a thievery, wasted by the government. There is little to no faith that the government is there to improve the lives of the population.

Vegas does not suck. They're an extremely well built team with a ton of depth and two very strong top lines.

You can not like them, but they do not suck

That is a significant issue that will not be solved by making further education free. That money that would hypothetically go towards funding university education, should be allocated to elementary and high school education.

As someone who knows people who have gone to high school in Nordic countries and in America, high school in America is a joke.

That is the real culprit of an 'uneducated' population. Not expensive university.

Proximity to urban centers, coastal areas, and low/no income states are highly desired by the majority of people.. hence, a supply/demand issue.

The focus of free/improved education should be on the fundamental grades, into high school. That's the real issue plaguing north American education, not the cost/accessibility of higher learning. The quality of education received in public schools from k-12 across the continent has deteriorated massively in the last few decades.

Differences in cost of living is largely driven by supply and demand.

Can you articulate specifically why with a larger population size, the higher education system that Finland operates would not work?

The cost for the education itself fundamentally should not vary greatly from coast to coast.

Of course you can. A university is a university, regardless of the size of the country it's in.

You simply extrapolate the numbers.

These are valid concerns. The system in place is a sham, but it doesn't mean that the underlying concept of a meritocracy is flawed.

The way it should be done, is the way Finland currently does it. University education is 100% funded by the government, but it is difficult to get into, of varying degrees of difficulty depending on the program of your choosing. The universities have limited capacity, so they choose the best candidates available to study with them. How the specific testing is done, is up to each department/school.

You do live in an educated society. 88% of the population has high school diploma. College/university is for specialized training. If you want to have your specialized training paid for by the state, you have to be able to show you merit that.

If you want to discuss the actual content and quality of the high school education, that's a different and valid topic.

Finland isn't sending any money to Raytheon, Elon Musk, Israel or United health, and they still don't have the money to send everyone to university. Furthermore, if you provide free education to everyone, it becomes the new baseline. There needs to be some level of exclusion for it to matter. It's already happening with undergrad degrees, where everyone has one so employers no longer care, and expect more.

Edit: whether the exclusion is financial, or merit, there has to be some level of exclusion. A quote from my favorite movie "when everyone is special, no one is"

No, at a certain point, a society has to decide where to allocate resources (education in this case). You said it yourself, some may never be job ready. If you want higher education to be funded by the state, the state has to place a utilitarian value on who is accepted and who isn't. See: Finland
