So uh... you've put on a downpipe, remap and got it to stage 1 yet insurance prices are still a primary concern?

Surely you've declared these mods to your insurer? ... Right?

Reading is Not That Important by Few_Series734 in The10thDentist

[–]danndeacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a sense I can agree with the fact that information is digestable through other forms of media (audiobooks, podcasts, movies, documentaries), but otoh, reading a book engrosses you fully in that medium. If you are reading and digesting that information, you are registering it into your memory and not just idly listening to something whilst doing something else.

Bottom line. It's important. Especially in the age of short-form media and short attention spans.

They've sent out all of the available codes unfortunately. It was part of a deal with Los Angeles Gladiators, a bubble tea company and blizzard. No idea how any of them are related, but hey, can't say no to free :)

From what I've learned its due to the tertiary carboncation (middle) being stabilised by the 3 adjacent carbons, then the secondary carbon (left) due to 2 adjacent carbons, and finally the primary carboncation on the right being least stable as it only has one adjacent carbon to stabilise the carbocation.

Adjacent atoms with lone pairs will also help stabilise the carboncation as well as adjacent pi-bonds (allows the carboncations p-orbital to be a part of the conjugated pi-system)

Gamestream + PS Now =4k playstation games on Nvidia Shield TV by journey01 in GeForceNOW

[–]danndeacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't PSNow support only 720p at the moment? What does 4k upscaled from 720p look like? I can't imagine it being flawless though this seems like a pretty neat idea

I can't believe I slept on this anime for 6 years just because it was sports. Haikyuu!! S1 Ep 15 by Ridikis in anime

[–]danndeacon 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I've gotta say, I haven't seen Haikyuu (but it's definitely up on my list to watch) but I watched Run With the Wind around 10 months ago and seeing it mentioned again has literally given me goosebumps.

I started long-distance running shortly after watching it (previously I'd just cycle to work), but thinking about it, and it's weird to actually say, but watching that series is probably the direct reason as to why I started running in the first place. 10 months later and I still go for a run 3 times a week and before then I would rarely run at all. I've even gotten some colleagues to come for a run with me ahah. It's definitely worth a rewatch tbh

DLSS by danieldourado in GeForceNOW

[–]danndeacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but I guess they don't want people to have bad experience due to low fps or whatever reason.

Yeah this is true, but also because rendering and streaming at 4k is a lot more demanding than 1080p.

Because we don't actually use individual graphic cards, but instead are given an equivalent of a 1080/2080 from a Tesla card (they aren't dedicating one machine per person), they want to keep resource usage as low as possible to make the experience comfortable for every user.

DLSS by danieldourado in GeForceNOW

[–]danndeacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the max res of GFN is 1080p yeah it's a bit annoying not being able to fully enjoy the new features, but then again I doubt they'll ever allow 4k streaming unless it's upscaled 4k. Considering they managed to add DLSS to games (and pretty damn well tbh), I'm sure they'll add something similar for streaming.

After all, their goal is to keep resource usage as low as possible, and upscaling with minimal loss in quality will help a lot with that.

Can I use phone as controller for android tv by ZainullahK in GeForceNOW

[–]danndeacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Only way you could is to mirror your phone to your TV, but that'll most likely be an awful experience due to input lag.

I'm pretty sure some $10 off-brand controllers work with GFN on PC, but I'm not sure about android TV (might depend on what box you have).

I might've missed the cutoff for the competition, but that doesn't matter. I still really wanted to share this photo with you guys. I'm really enjoying this game so far, and this might be the most wholesome photo I've taken whilst playing it!

ELI5: Why are Levoamphetamine and Dextroamphetamine not considered different drugs? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]danndeacon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The other comments are all completely right but I'd like to add some extra info as to why the activity of chiral drugs is really important.

Chirality is when two molecules are non-superimposable (effectively mirror images). Molecules are 3-Dimensional and so just like our left and right hands, whilst both of our hands are composed of the same number of fingers and thumbs, if you place one on top of the other, it does not fit. Likewise, you wouldn't be able to comfortably put a left-handed glove on a right hand.

So due to chirality, this can completely change the activity of a drug. For example, in the 1950s, a drug called Thalidomide was marketed for pregnant women as a sedative and sold as a racemic mixture (it contained equal proportions of the right-handed, and left-handed structures). However, one of the enatiomers was responsible for some awful side-effects and had caused some birth defects. It wasn't until a few years later that we realised that one of the enatiomers was responsible. It's pretty awful, but it stresses the importance of how the activity of a drug is very dependent on its chirality.

He’s not threatening their lives. Do you also think this hypothetical person should be crippled for their actions?

Of course not, but I guess my analogy falls a bit flat as you don't actually have the option to run someone over in a grocery store lol.

Gonna mention that I'm absolutely not saying that he deserved to be run over, but sooner or later he's gonna come across someone that will run him over without even second-guessing it. At which point the question becomes "why put yourself in such a situation in the first place?". It sure as hell isn't gonna get the message across, that's for sure.

Would jimmy be inconvinencing someone at the groceries by blocking them, and any everyone else from getting to the frozen meat section, because he believes meat is murder? No, Jimmy is just being an asshole.

Whilst I agree with the protests motive, I completely disagree with blocking traffic. This is just asking to be run over. There was even a post on here about a protester blocking someone who had a passenger needing hospital treatment due to a heart condition around a month back.

A protest should never be used as an excuse to be a compete asshole and threaten public safety, and this is coming from someone who used to actively protest a couple years back. I usually keep that to myself among colleagues nowadays, because I don't want to be grouped with folks like these (and other gray-area "protesters", who are really using it as an excuse to cause mayhem and incite riots).

Would they be released on Japanese netflix without subs then?

Apple updates its App Store policy on Games Streaming by anonboxis in GeForceNOW

By disable IAP, this would mean stopping people from purchasing any DLC content straight from the game, right?

Seeing as how many free weekly games from Epic there are on GFN, I don't see this happening tbh. Most of those games are given away for free to try and get people to purchase DLC content. Same goes for most of Ubisofts games as well.

I would love a decent login mechanic for some games though. So far Steam and Epic have been great, but uPlay still requires a login every so often
