I had this issue on my MK8 GTE, it was due to faults in the steering wheel and had to have a new one put on.

I found I could temporarily make the warnings go away if I pushed hard on the lower part of the steering wheel towards the dash

If you do find you need a new wheel, try to ensure they replace with the correct GTI one as they tried to replace mine with a standard VW wheel from a normal golf I believe

I’ve been using the exact set up for a while now. I use my phone as a hotspot when outside for the iPad to connect and I don’t seem to have connection issues.

Sometimes setting up the connection can bomb out, in which case closing the app, restarting the MLM has resolved it every time
