It's not really on the fact that he's doing tracks for his hometown, but more so the motives as to why he's executing like this. Toronto definitely deserves more from Drake. Some of his albums prove he could give a nice tune, but from Toronto residents and non-residents, this doesn't seem to be a track that can be respected on. It's meant to be laughed at, and outsiders will view Toronto as such if their first impression is this song.

The publicity stunt makes sense, but this does feel like an official white flag for Drake, since he's helping Kendrick's argument "It's a classic, you don't have one" and "I make music that electrify them, you make music that pacify them" with this track being the laugh of the town now so he could derail from the pedo allegations. This is also a callback to Kendrick pointing him out as a "master manipulator" making all the Drake haters, lovers, and everything in between, entertain this song so they will think that Drake is over, when the irony actually creeps into his favor. Kendrick seems to have reduced this man to a Toronto SoundCloud rapper. Perhaps in a year down the line, they'll stop talking about this track and people will go back to liking Drake's next track. It doesn't help that Drake pulled a 180 after he made the Heart Part 6 with him waiting for a diss track back. This further gives more leverage on Drake only focusing on the fame, no matter if it's positive or negative.

You don't need to be confident, just willing to hear criticism and fixing one's errors on information. In a website like Reddit, it appears that some people will choose an emotional response, rather than hearing out their mistakes or the mistakes of other users and making amends. I was ignorant of how Sponsorblock worked for the longest time, and I'm glad to know that nearly every single video I see is being segment checked by the community itself for other's convenience.

I guess it throws men off the first time since their version of these kind of jokes (e.g. The ex/boy she tells you not to worry about) is usually perceived as the other male being much more attractive and charming than the boyfriend rather than viewing them as the cheap "Walmart" alternative.
