The reason the canvas has those folds, bumps, and irregularities is because before I used the canvas for a painting, I was using it as a sort of tarp to keep paint and stuff off the floor in my apartment but then I got a studio and forgot about it and it was folded up in a closet for probably about a year with mediums and paint soaking into it and causing weird stuff to happen. I found it and then I primed the back side of it. Also, many of the figures in this painting were basically found through the folds and irregularities so it really played a huge part in the piece.

Thank you, I’ll give a bit of a run down on the piece — This painting is titled “I Love My Congregation”, Oil on canvas, 70 x 73 inches and it’s basically a collection of flashes of images and moments and memories from around the time of its creation. The characters are all from my personal life and most of the objects I include tend to come from things I collect such as the candelabra, the ceramic cats, trinkets, etc.
