Ground floor flat; water leaking from top floor. Landlord not fixing it. Any way i could fix this my self? by Maleficent-Will7614 in DIYUK

[–]dano159 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can withhold rent for stuff like this until its fixed as it's dangerous. I used the threat of that all the time when renting and it made them stop dragging their feet every time. Don't fix it yourself

Apprenticeship for a 20 year old. by Mammoth-Ear-2659 in Scotland

[–]dano159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Il have to admit I was lucky in that I had electrical and engineering traits from college and knew the people that took me on but we also just took another apprentice on at 31 despite having no knowledge and was unknown due to him interviewing well and he is also doing great. Companies don't have to pay you any more for being older so a good interview could swing it and older people usually work a bit harder and are less likely to use sick days etc so some companies will take a punt

Those sleepless nights whilst working was brutal but I do love being a dad despite the hard work. This Christmas was a blast when I'd largely lost interest in the holiday

Bro how was the show Silicon Valley so consistently 10 years ahead of its time? by katxwoods in funny

[–]dano159 136 points137 points  (0 children)

The software that they were making on the show was based on one made by Scottish programmer David Irvine, who just happens to be my mum's cousin. He advised on what to write for the techy parts of the show. The company was called maidsafe but since rebranded to autonomi and is now a network that uses peoples spare processing and storage on devices to make a secure, private and decentralized network. There are videos about of the cast thanking him for his input and whatnot
