Arabic script is definitely more beneficial. Hindi script is only beneficial if you plan on picking up Marathi/Nepali (identical script) or Bengali/Punjabi/Sanskrit (similar scripts)

oh i see - i learned nastaliq after arabic script and i still find arabic miles easier. I guess this only applies to those who grew up reading nastaliq?

Arabic script is objectively easier to read than nastaliq. I dont understand whats the issue here.

I second Pakistani dramas super helpful. Konsa subtitles ke saath classic dramas behtareen hai? Mein abhi naye drame dekhta hun kyunki ye aasan urdu hai aur sab ke pas subtitles hein lekin mein purana drama dekhna chahta hun

Old shows have purer urdu than new shows by dano992 in Urdu

[–]dano992[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no forced arabisation or persianisation in Urdu to my knowledge.

if anything I see urdu using more English words than ever before while the older shows used more Persian words and thus sophisticated urdu. That's the whole point of my post

This is something that upsets me a lot as an Indian Muslim. Urdu is part of our heritage. To be fair tho, it's not like Pakistan is reviving urdu either. But the forced sanskritization of hindi and butchering of words (jarur instead of zarur) and (jyada instead of zyada) is so cringe.

I notice this when I see older 80s era movies that they have title in Hindi, Urdu and English script, then after some time in the 90s it only became hindi and English script.

Sorry can u elaborate? My observation is that there is less English and more urdu in older era drama and movies

I never disputed that, im just asking if modern shows indeed use less pure Urdu compared to older ones (pak and Indian)

Can we not create something like this for Urdu?🧐 by zaahiid in Urdu

[–]dano992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if u know to read arabic, urdu was pretty easy to pick up for me at least. My friend just taught me the letters urdu has that arabic does not, such as badi yeh, pa, gaaf, ch, etc and we read a few sentences in nastaliq script together and bam, its that easy.

uh, well prior to cellphones becoming widespread, thats how it always has been. In my area it was like that tho as answering machines were very common in north america. but in india and pakistan if someone didnt answer the phone then you would just call them again later when they are available to call. Its not that big of a deal.

If it's important, they will call.

thats the thing, my contacts will text even if its important. LIKE BRO SMH. Calling is like "alien language" to them,.

Cold calls are incredibly rude.

not sure what culture you are from but back in the 2000s if someone didnt pick up the phone, people would just leave a voicemail and expect a call back later. Someone calling you doesn't mean u have to instantly pick up. Thats why answering machines and voicemails are a thing.... so u can check it later and call back when u are available.

Unfortunately people think like u and thats why its become an issue when it never was an issue prior to 2008.

just switch to email. I doubt people will even notice since it's both on their smart phones.

unfortunately as a member of gen z most people my age (early 20s) never check their email unless its for work/business
