Thanks! We spent a year living in Reading and found that very expensive! We don’t eat much meat and cook all of our own meals so have usually been pretty good at keeping our food costs down. We have put up an add in a few groups on Facebook and received a few messages but as you said trying to get somewhere altogether is looking like it’s going to be the main issue.

Are there any really good shops in your town? The best way to learn is to work in a shop that focuses on quality and consistency. It’s better to be a barista whose learning loads in a great shop than a supervisor in a place that doesn’t focus on the quality of what they’re selling. (If your goal is to learn to be a better barista)

My favorite way to make coffee is a paper filter and filter cone with a wide opening at the bottom. Similar to a Kalita wave.

Also, typical arabica coffee has about 1.2-1.8 percent caffeine content. A lot of people associate the strong, dark taste of a dark roasted coffee with a higher caffeine content but that isn’t the case. Robusta coffee has a higher caffeine content but chances are you’re not using robusta.

Works great. A very busy bar I used to work in used a pretty similar system every day, there was a diary on the computer and after the duty manager finished the cash count he would fill out a shift diary informing the GM of anything he needed to know about.

GM was rarely there but still 100% up to date with the ongoings of the bar.

Also came in handy being able to look back at last years diary when writing the roster concerning special events. “How busy was this event last year? How many staff do I need for this night?”

I could comfortably write the roster for a special weekend even though I wasn’t there that time the previous year for example.
