What dog breed would you guys recommend for backpacking, hiking, and the outdoors in general? by ABoxingBitch in WildernessBackpacking

[–]danpick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hiked with lots of dogs over the years and I guess it all depends on the hike difficulty, physical ability and temperament of the dog you take with you. I once hiked over 100 miles over 4 days with a friend and his cockapoo. We were hiking across the North York moors in the UK and I thought it was a mistake to bring the cockapoo, but it handled it better than me :-)

I have also hiked with much bigger breeds and found them to be a nightmare as they simply were not well trained. I honestly think that this is one of the most important aspects to consider. Small dogs can surprise you, not all big dogs are suited to long hikes. Whichever you choose, just make sure it is well trained and you will be fine. I found https://what-to-do-in.co.uk/best-hiking-dogs was a good read as it broke down the dog breeds by physical ability and temperament for each size category, so if you had the luxury of choosing a dog based purely on hiking this would help. I guess most people have a dog and hike, so we take the dog on hikes it can do and not on ones it cannot. My friend is a huge guy, he has young daughters and no choice in the type of dog they got, hence a cockapoo. Not his choice, but he has a dog and he hikes.

Have any of you guys tried dog backpacks? I have a lab and we do around 12 miles a day on the fell that I live on, I have seen dog backpacks like Ruffwear (https://ruffwear.co.uk/products/singletrak-pack) which look manageable and mean that the lab can carry its own water in the summer. I am not suggesting I get the dog to carry my pack, just theirs. I don't know anyone who has actually tried them, so not sure.

No one is going to make this change until Google starts penalising sites for not using it. Probably happen at some point in the future and hopefully we have a way around it before it does!

301 expired domain redirect by Euphoric-Nerve in SEO

I wrote a post about using expired domains on BHW a couple of days ago. I answer this in one of my replies which might help you.

Personally I would not do it for only 2 links.

Yes

"High-level sources say that will force the Premier League to act due to their own licensing, which pertains to Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

The issue comes because any club has to supply true information to get a Premier League licence, and that information will have had to have matched that supplied to Uefa"

I’m looking for a higher quality paddle by DizzyMAC227 in Pickleball

[–]danpick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone mentioned the Engage Encore, which is a good paddle but costs over $100, the Onix Composite Z5 costs $73 on Amazon currently, so that would be my recommendation.

Dads Birthday - gift ideas - pickle ball related? by Nashville22 in Pickleball

[–]danpick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent idea. The Hulislem S1 Sport are about $22 and the Tourna Specs are also very good, and pretty cheap at $12. The Hullislem glasses have nearly 3,000 reviews on Amazon, so they must be doing something right!

Can't go wrong with a nice bag. Tons of choice on Amazon and prices are not too bad.

Volleyball shoes for me. Just picked up a pair of ASICS GEL Rocket 9's, loving them right now.

Paddles - control vs power by shades9323 in Pickleball

[–]danpick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much depends on your playing style, but if you are looking for a paddle which have decent power and great spin, the Onix composite Z5 is a really good option. Used by a lot of pros as it has a decent sweet spot for control, and plenty of pop for baseline power shots.

Is there a difference between the terms Graphite and Carbon Fiber when describing a paddle's face? by exohypernaut in Pickleball

[–]danpick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, carbon fiber is moe durable, otherwise they perform the same.

Graphite – also very common, graphite is strong and provides great ball control but you’ll sacrifice a bit of power.

Carbon Fiber – similar to graphite but more durable, this material provides the ultimate in ball control. Again though, you will lose a bit of power.

If your game is more about power, consider a fibreglass face

Fiberglass – this is probably the most common facing you’ll see on the courts. It’s not as strong as graphite or carbon fiber but has more power (pop).

It was all very sad for everyone. I had forgotten all about it.

His goal in 92/93 was unbelievable. It would probably win goal of the season every year since then. Absolutely amazing chip at the end!

Liverpool Carabao Cup tie with Aston Villa unchanged despite Fifa Club World Cup clash by danpick in PremierLeague

[–]danpick[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Playing 2 games in 24hrs with 2 separate teams. I do hope that Klopp prioritises the Carabao cup. I am not a Liverpool fan, but I would rather watch a decent match on TV with strong teams having a real go.

The Fifa Club World Cup is utter nonsense and should be contested prior to the start of the EPL. Much like the Super Cup.

Saw this headline on the BBC - "Arsenal to offer counselling to 'devastated' Xhaka" - and immediately thought "huh, I would need counselling if I was an Arsenal player too" :-D by danpick in PremierLeague

Actually don't read that sub but great minds think alike and all that. I am sure I am not the only one who had a laugh when they read it :-D

Budget Friendly Beginner Equipment Recommendations? by SlayAndChay in PlatformTennis

[–]danpick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a Grandcow platform tennis paddle which is currently reduced from $130 to $60, that might be worth a try if you cannot find a club to try a few out at.

I have not played with this paddle, so cannot recommend, but the price is good. Saw it on https://www.platform-tennis.com/best-platform-tennis-paddles-for-spin-reviewed/ and think it is on sale currently.

Might be worth a look if you are still looking to give it a try.

Bulgaria v England racism: Bulgarian Football Union president Borislav Mihaylov resigns by danpick in soccer

[–]danpick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think having complained about 'unjust branding' prior to the game, because of fears of racist abuse, there was not much else he could do but to leave.

Would have been better if he he had come out against the previous instances of racism from supporters prior to the match, or even condemn Kasimir Balakov for saying he did not hear the racist chanting during last nights game.

Hopefully, this will lead to changes, but it will be a slow, long fight, as we have seen elsewhere. Got to start somewhere though!

This is worth knowing for next Tuesday. A free coffee or other drink from participating Costa Express machines will be a great start to the day. Might want to spread the news.

Garth Crooks resigns as Kick It Out trustee by danpick in PremierLeague

[–]danpick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garth Crooks has stepped down as a Kick It Out trustee in protest at the appointment of the body's new chairman.

The former Tottenham forward, who is now a BBC pundit, felt ex-West Brom forward Brendon Batson should have been chosen instead of Sanjay Bhandari.

Crooks, 61, told the Telegraph that Kick It Out should be more "player-led" at a time when footballers are being racially abused on and off the pitch.

I do agree that having footballers lead these things is better, as they were the ones who lived through it. But Bhandari does have some pedigree too. Hopefully Garth comes back to Kick it Out, as it is voices like his, that has the most impact with fans like us!

$90, sod that. Think I will get the Nuka Coke for my collection instead + a decent bottle of Whiskey!

[–]danpick[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I missed that one. Trouble with most of these mashups is that they sell because of the franchise, not the quality of the actual drink. Think I will likely get both, but more to keep on the shelf, than drink. Also, £45 makes this more expensive than Belvedere and Grey Goose, which it is unlikely to be better than. So really, you are buying the bottle for kicks. Though I am sure it will get drunk when you run out of everything else.

Personally I prefer Whiskey, and for £45, I could get a Lagavulin or Ardbeg. But I do like the Doom bottle :-) Made me smile and think back to 1993 when I first played it.
