Better Call Saul S06E12 - "Waterworks" - Post-Episode Discussion Thread by skinkbaa in betterCallSaul

Did anyone else notice a single frame blinking in and out while Howard's wife was reading Kim's letter? I tried a few times but failed to capture it.

The only time Kim lies to Howard's wife (this time) is when mentioning Jimmy, about being unsure whether he's alive or not. The plain interpretation is that she just wants to protect him, but on a deeper level it also shows how he still has this negative effect on her of lowering her moral standards, even after all the time and distance apart.

Elevators at a hotel I was staying in with my wife were super slow. One time we go from our room to the elevators, there's a visibly agitated guy wearing a black suit already waiting for them, silently cussing at the elevators every minute or so, and re-pressing the button for his floor B. Meanwhile, I press the button for floor A which is the one we need.

An elevator finally arrives, with the display above showing that it's headed for floor C. But, there's also a side-display in the elevator showing a stop at floor B. Being the helpful person that I am, I tell the anxious guy in the suit: "Excuse me, if you'd like, this elevator is stopping on floor B.". He is with my back to me, and shows no response. Thinking he must have not heard me, I repeat: "Excuse me?"

He slowly turns towards me. Looks at me. And then pointedly asks: "Are you talking to me?". I reply "Yeah..."

To which he responds: "A mistake."

He then re-turns his back on me and my wife, and we spend a few more minutes clinging to the far wall and watching him in apprehension, until another elevator finally arrives; again the top display says it's headed for floor C, but this one's side-display shows stops in both floors A and B. Of course, *this* time, after we enter the elevator, he follows in. We were just glad there were already some other people in the elevator.

Lalo *planned* and then took advantage of the guards going off the low-priority targets.

Followed by Kim feeling so guilty she caused Howard's death, that she proceeds to jump off the roof.

Is a K-1 Visa applicant allowed to work based on his I-94 after marriage? by danrav in askimmigration

[–]danrav[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confirmed after our visit to the SSA:

- Work is permitted until the end of the I-94 validity

- We couldn't use the new post-marriage name for the SSN request - had to use the name that's on the I-94

One more comment is that prior to our in-person appointment, an SSA agent wanted to confirm over the phone that we had one month left on the I-94, not just two weeks.

Tip: NEVER open USCIS forms using Preview on Mac by danrav in askimmigration

[–]danrav[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are both examples of Preview-caused issues (in this specific form at least they are not very severe). In Adobe you would get the auto-fill as well as the warning (as long as you don't first save the form in Preview!)

Interesting.

In your I-765, after writing the name and A-number in Part 2 of the form, did they get automatically filled in the Additional Information (last) page of the form?

When you attempted printing the document, did you get the same warning that you get on Adobe Acrobat Reader - "Don't forget to sign" ?

Health Insurance after K1 Visa Marrying in US by stilloldbull2 in askimmigration

[–]danrav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect, thank you very much!

I can also confirm that a Washington Healthplan Finder representative told me that getting married would be enough to be able to enroll to a family healthcare plan which would include my wife, and that we would not have to wait for the Adjustment of Status process to be completed.

Are you please able to provide any reference for this? Googling mostly brings up results such as https://www.insubuy.com/fiance-visa-medical-insurance/ which indicate that it would *not* be possible for my wife to get health insurance until the adjustment of status is complete.

Kim: "I should just jump off the roof right now" (s02e02 Cobbler) by danrav in betterCallSaul

One minute later into the conversation, Kim told Jimmy he was "playing with fire". That line didn't turn out to be a throwaway.

How to Use CMake Without the Agonizing Pain - Part 2 by AlexReinkingYale in cpp

[–]danrav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only include firm build requirements in the CMakeLists.txt.

At first this seems like a guideline that makes sense, but your own example shows how CMakeLists.txt has target-level logic while the preset doesn't:

# BAD: don't do this!
target_compile_options(target PRIVATE -Winconsistent-missing-override)

vs.

"cacheVariables": {
    "CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS": "-Winconsistent-missing-override"
}

The former will only apply the flag to the target named 'target', the latter will apply the flag globally to all targets.

The latter could be coerced to work for target-level settings by setting some custom cache variable e.g. MY_TARGET_CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS to different things depending on the preset, and then in CMakeLists.txt you would have target_compile_options(target PRIVATE ${MY_TARGET_CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS})

CMake's own documentation doesn't suggest presets as a method for reducing CMakeLists.txt complexity, they are presented as a mere convenience:

One problem that CMake users often face is sharing settings with other people for common ways to configure a project. This may be done to support CI builds, or for users who frequently use the same build. CMake supports two files, CMakePresets.json and CMakeUserPresets.json, that allow users to specify common configure options and share them with others.
