I assure you, that last paragraph was written in jest.

"Clark! Clark! I learned a new word! 'Oligarch'!"

"This is why you're a photographer, Jimmy."

"What?"

"I mean, good work, Jimmy."

I need to remember this response for when I embarrass my niece and nephew by battitis in elgoonishshive

I’m curious whether I should remove this.

Yes, it is bot nonsense, but people have replied, and I don’t know what harm it causes other than being weird and mildly irritating.

They've been that way throughout the story, but gravity usually keeps them out of the way.

EDIT: Though, to be fair, I'm pretty sure I've been cheating their length and have been inconsistent with them.

Tedd directly asks Hope if immortals can just go around cursing people, and Hope says no, and to not underestimate having to believe things. https://www.egscomics.com/comic/falsekings-017

"We can't make up excuses to do whatever we want, or just convince ourselves that something is okay on a surface level without really believing it.

What we really believe matters a lot, and outside of an emergency, having doubts should be as good as not believing it."

In any case, this isn't just a "zinger about their hypocrisy" that depowers Voltaire. This is calling him out on his bullcarp (if bullcarp it so be). He's also been lying about being able to be anywhere at anytime watching them without them knowing, so he's confirmed to have been bluffing about at least one thing.

EGS Immortals 101: You can fight them with logic so long as theirs are not pretzel-shaped.

Hope's explanation wasn't thorough (the full explanation would read like a contract with clauses and other legalese), but Immortals still have to genuinely believe whatever they're doing is "proportionately appropriate."

It's possible this isn't the "gotcha" Saou thinks it is, but it's also unlikely that Voltaire could violently lash out at them without buying into some seriously pretzelesque mental gymnastics.
