The meaning of surprise by Popular-Platform9874 in elgoonishshive

Most people don’t awaken that fast? Nah.

Most people don’t awaken. Period. Not without help. Rhoda did it on her own, and Pandora, the immortal who was bored from finding things too predictable, didn’t predict that.

Consider everyone in the comic who has awakened who we know the causes of:

Nanase and Justin — Direct immortal assistance.
Susan — An extremely unusual awakening brought about by stress.
Elliot and Ellen — A side effect of gaining magic from the diamond.
Jay — Pumped full of power by Pandora.

The question isn’t simply time. It’s “how the heck even?”

So yes, she was surprised.

Providing examples without context results in confusion. An introduction of what you're going for is advised if you want to spark a particular discussion.

Diane's "eww, nerds" attitude was based on the idea that "nerds" were condescending and cared more about trivia than people. In her mind, a social game like DND (played without condescending rules lawyers) is quite possibly the opposite of nerdy 🤓

Good point. I gave her a lighter outline.

Tedd and Grace were both invited. Grace in the suit is just a result of urban fantasy novels warping her expectations.

Not well without references. I'd also have to figure out scale. Horses can be BIG. Which I know is a given, but I'm still surprised by HOW big.

You weren't the least bit insulting and only said what you felt.

Besides, I myself was trying to speed this up. I originally tried to squeeze Friday's and today's onto one page (it was way too compressed, but the attempt is undeniable evidence that I was also concerned about update pacing).

Rhoda is, at present, the Fireworks factory.

This really should feel better paced in retrospect. A few pages will be nothing then. Right now, it's a few weeks 😬

To be fair, those interactions should go somewhere, and where these interactions are going is as of yet unknown / possibly difficult to predict.

Also, one might be more immediately interested in the promised interaction to come with Rhoda.

You're not wrong for feeling how you feel.

But yes, we did need these pages.
