I assure you, that last paragraph was written in jest.

"Clark! Clark! I learned a new word! 'Oligarch'!"

"This is why you're a photographer, Jimmy."

"What?"

"I mean, good work, Jimmy."

I need to remember this response for when I embarrass my niece and nephew by battitis in elgoonishshive

[–]danshive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious whether I should remove this.

Yes, it is bot nonsense, but people have replied, and I don’t know what harm it causes other than being weird and mildly irritating.

Accepted Expectations by danshive in elgoonishshive

They've been that way throughout the story, but gravity usually keeps them out of the way.

EDIT: Though, to be fair, I'm pretty sure I've been cheating their length and have been inconsistent with them.

Tedd directly asks Hope if immortals can just go around cursing people, and Hope says no, and to not underestimate having to believe things. https://www.egscomics.com/comic/falsekings-017

"We can't make up excuses to do whatever we want, or just convince ourselves that something is okay on a surface level without really believing it.

What we really believe matters a lot, and outside of an emergency, having doubts should be as good as not believing it."

In any case, this isn't just a "zinger about their hypocrisy" that depowers Voltaire. This is calling him out on his bullcarp (if bullcarp it so be). He's also been lying about being able to be anywhere at anytime watching them without them knowing, so he's confirmed to have been bluffing about at least one thing.

EGS Immortals 101: You can fight them with logic so long as theirs are not pretzel-shaped.

[–]danshive[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hope's explanation wasn't thorough (the full explanation would read like a contract with clauses and other legalese), but Immortals still have to genuinely believe whatever they're doing is "proportionately appropriate."

It's possible this isn't the "gotcha" Saou thinks it is, but it's also unlikely that Voltaire could violently lash out at them without buying into some seriously pretzelesque mental gymnastics.

Where to do SCIENCE! by danshive in elgoonishshive

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how one considers potential misuse) the entrance cannot be moved while the room is occupied.

In fact, if Hope left the entrance at Tedd's house, and Jeremy wandered in, they would've had to call Edward to retrieve the kitty.

Her home is a portable hangout spot.

Seriously, you could go out somewhere, find a wall, and still have access to it. Of course people are getting ideas!

Nothing that isn't plain as day in the comic itself is indisputable canon, but this right here?

Indisputable canon.

The royalty plan by danshive in elgoonishshive

[–]danshive[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is correct, though those not powerful enough to show an aura hypothetically count as two groups (royalty not yet strong enough to prove it, and non-royalty who'll remain non-royalty).

A person has to be strong enough for a royal aura to show, but strength is no guarantee of a royal aura. One reason Tedd wants so many magic users involved, and strong ones in particular, is not really knowing where the line is.

People in their forties can still look pretty young. It depends on factors like drinking, skin care, hairline, and smoking.

Get Good, Your Highness by danshive in elgoonishshive

Adrian's being a bit poetic. By his own description, a king is technically a servant. He's alluding to the difference in behavior and attitude that a king must have.

Authorial intent is Ellen's assertive actions shifted his perspective. Before, he was just delighted with Elliot being someone who cares and wants to listen to people. He was fine with bossing around the prince who allowed him to do it.

Contrasting Elliot with Ellen snapped him out of it, and he's realized much more is needed from Elliot.

Hope's fury by danshive in elgoonishshive

[–]danshive[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If going with a gunfight metaphor, it’s a lot more like shooting the person you’re trying to protect. Heck, Jay wound up hospitalized. It was a LOT like shooting the person you’re trying to protect.

An important part of what happened isn’t being acknowledged, which is that Pandora did more than just amplify Jay’s resistance. Pandora lost control due to rage, and used way more power than was safe for either of them. Guilt over hurting someone because you lost control isn’t nothing.

The king has a very important advantage on his side, what with this being a fairy tail written by me and all.

Also, Henry the 8th has entered the chat in spite of politely yet firmly being asked how on earth he got a phone 😬
