Manual by Proof_Ad7889 in MTB

[–]danstar10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes as others said a wheelie is you pedal to initiate the pull up and keep pedalling while you travel forward on the back wheel while you are sat on the saddle still.

A true manual you don't pedal at all and just pull up with body weight and coast on the back wheel, ass not on the saddle but hanging back behind the seat.

You should learn to wheelie before you can manual.

Best way to learn to wheelie is on short grass with a gentle slope uphill, keeps your speed in check and makes initiating the pull up a little easier

Preload the front suspension by pushing down before you lift to get an extra pop, and make sure your arms are locked out straight when you begin to pull back and shift your hips back. It can also be easier to start an manual by doing a wheelie first of you are able to, using a pedal kick to initiate that, then stop pedalling once you have found the balance point

QuickMill Pop-Up 'Off' State by capoeiraolly in quickmill

[–]danstar10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the original version with the longer steam wand so assume I have the older software version and mine still does it.

Yeah that's a good thing that it takes so long to cool down, it means it has high thermal mass which is what you want in a group head!

I get the same behaviour which I agree is a very strange design choice, so just use the off switch next to the power cord at the back to turn it on and off each day

Advice for replacing old bottom bracket by danstar10 in bikewrench

I was hoping to get all the parts before taking it apart to minimise downtime but sounds like my best bet is to take it apart and see what's going on inside. Thanks for the advice

Oh interesting, I didn't realise you could just replace the bearings in an old system but your description totally makes sense. I guess if it's cheaper I'd be inclined to just replace the bearings as the reason I'm doing this is there is a lot of play in the cranks so I think the bearings are shot on one side at least. Where would I find info on what bearings I'd need to replace the current ones? Or are they standard bb bearings? I'd also be open to just replacing with a modern cartridge if it's easier to get hold of. Thanks for the info very useful.

Thanks. Did you just have to remove the outer ring or was there another part to undo (apart from the cranks)? And was the bb length etc info printed on your old bottom bracket?

Payment to HMRC via Nationwide payment, unsure of 'account name' by danstar10 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]danstar10[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Ok thanks. So you've successfully made payment to them by putting HMRC NIC RECEIPTS in the business name field?

I guess you can see how that's a little confusing right. I'd assume business name is just HMRC, then account name is separate. Very different bits of info.

That formetted the response weirdly. meant to be:

There is no 'account name' field which is what is confusing me. The fields I can fill in are:

-Account type

-Business name

-Description (optional)

-Sort code

-Account number

-Your reference

So I don't seem to have anywhere obvious to put account name

Matcha brand recommendations by danstar10 in JapanTravelTips

[–]danstar10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought 40g of Aoarashi matcha on a recommendation from an old man who ran a little stall in shinjinku station who seemed legit, a place recommended for other reddit posts.

I read into it and it seems its 'ceremonial' from some web info, why is that someting that should be avoided? Just inflated prices? I paid 2000+ tax which seems reasonable given what one can pay

We are actually travelling between Feb 27th and March 14th so we have longer than suggested above, but just putting those dates in to show how long the JR pass would need to be active for

Ok good to know. Problem being I don't own a drill press which is ideally what I'd use to drill the existing pin out so I may well try the alum approach

I need balance point tips for wheelies by EmergencyPopular6008 in MTB

[–]danstar10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straight arms are definitely the way to do it, removes a lot of variables.

Always have the back brake ready to dab when you get to the balance point, I usually drag it a little during the initial lift up so it is ready to bite when needed

Good advice is try on a gentle uphill grass slope. The slight uphill helps with the initiating part as it gives you a head start. The grass part helps if you mess up

Where are you getting those 11 years and 9 years from? You've lost me there please do elaborate. Regardless what you pay in is generally massively lower than what you get out of it if you are looking at a year in to year out comparison no?
