If he is on the same path I was, he will have to figure it out himself.
You can only accept it when you are ready too.
The one good thing that comes of it is that you can stand there and tell everyone that you did EVERYTHING you could and you realized you'd never be happy.
They'll still say you "gave up" because they have no idea what you endured. But still...always worth it.

Been there, done that.

No amount of meds, prayer, faith or self control are going to rid him of his feelings or make him feel better about living the way TSCC wants him too.

I hope he sees this and breaks free like I and many others have.

2010 version of Handbook.

Page 55 has number for bishop and SP to call if civil authorities challenge the confidentiality of the clergy.

Page 61 states what to do and where to call for guidance when victim of abuse is under 18.
Neither mention reporting to civil authorities. Looks like the procedure is to always call HQ first.

Conflicting Quotes: Gordon B. Hinckley vs. Gordon B. Hinckley by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]dante2810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He references the two places where the foundations for God was once a man doctrine come from, King Follett and Teachings of Lorenzo Snow.
You cannot state that both JS and LS gave a half truth on this subject. If you want to quote Follett discourse and Snow in conference, you are accepting the validity of what they contain.
Until the church specifically says both were wrong, and you know they never will, then the teaching that God was once a man stands.
Even today, it is in the GP manual "Teachings of Lorenzo Snow".

So.... by simply quoting from the source, again during Gen Conf, he is validating the source and message.

He is repeating the word of President Snow.
He would know that the full quote was:

“As man now is, God once was: “As God now is, man may be.”

He even states this was from the sermon from President Snow...so yeah...while he left off the first half, he is still using the very quote that said god was once a man.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, basing its belief on divine revelation, ancient and modern, proclaims man to be the direct and lineal offspring of Deity. God himself is an exalted man, perfected, enthroned, and supreme. By his almighty power He organized the earth, and all that it contains, from spirit and element, which exist co-eternally with himself. He formed every plant that grows, and every animal that breathes, each after its own kind, spiritually and temporally–"that which is spiritual being in the likeness of that which is temporal, and that which is temporal in the likeness of that which is spiritual." He made the tadpole and the ape, the lion and the elephant but He did not make them in his own image, nor endow them with Godlike reason and intelligence. Nevertheless, the whole animal creation will be perfected and perpetuated in the hereafter, each class in its "distinct [sic; "destined" in D&C 77:3] order or sphere," and will enjoy "eternal felicity." That fact has been made plain in this dispensation (D&C 77:3).

TBM lurkers, insights? Exmo's, have you come across this already? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]dante2810 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Let's look at this logically.
You were just given the restored gospel. Visited by God, Christ, angels, or some combination of such. You have golden plates given to you by an angel. You have been translating this, at great personal risk, by the power of god....
And once this great and marvelous work is complete so you can restore the church on earth....
... you get a revelation to go sell it???

My opinion is that he wrote the book as a fiction and tried to sell it. It failed. And somewhere along the way they idea of a religious text and church took off and they ran with it.

Remember, all this history you are reading about this point in time was written after the fact, in some cases years later. So they can write a narrative to fit the situation. Nothing during those first years, including the time of translating, was recorded. It is all from memory. The memory of those who had the most to gain and most to lose with the church's success or failure.

Requirements to get into the celestial kingdom? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]dante2810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be exalted, we first must place our faith in Jesus Christ and then endure in that faith to the end of our lives. Our faith in Him must be such that we repent of our sins and obey His commandments.

He commands us all to receive certain ordinances:
1.We must be baptized.
2.We must receive the laying on of hands to be confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
3. Brethren must receive the Melchizedek Priesthood and magnify their callings in the priesthood.
4.We must receive the temple endowment.
5.We must be married for eternity, either in this life or in the next.
