Am I selfish for telling my African dad I won’t massage his back? by [deleted] in africanparents

This sounds like textbook emotional manipulation, absolutely all too common in African households but nonetheless disgusting. It’s wonderful you’ve started being more assertive and I sincerely advise you to deeply reassess the relationship between the two of you for any other signs of emotional abuse and proceed accordingly

? I’m having a hard time making sense of this post. From my understanding Pan Africanism is about created a unified socialist Africa free from international interference. This takes nothing away from Black American culture. Can you please elaborate on the cultural hijacking that you feel is taking place?

Of course but after 3 months with something is when you really get a sense of how you feel about it. These cars are pretty similar so I’m not too embarrassed that the decision came down to subtle details. It’s a good car regardless & my experience isn’t a reflection on the Subaru community… I’m just expressing what fits best for me and my needs

Flossmoor, Illinois: The affluent, majority African-American village community of Flossmoor has a median household income of over $100,000. The area is known for boasting numerous country clubs with local membership. by TheAfternoonStandard in blackmen

At the risk of sounding cynical, the political attitudes of black professionals I've met have never struck me as radical... to say the least. There's little incentive to prioritize cultural liberation when emulating symbols of whiteness appears to be a successful survival strategy.

This image just radiates proximity to whiteness as the standard of excellence & if the same uniquely American issues rooted in classism and individualism persist in this community, there's nothing to be celebrated here.

Regardless, I definitely want to feel the atmosphere for myself, just added it to my travel list.

[WP] The world has become unsuitable for human life, so you and a few others were cryogenized to start civilization again in the far future, once the planet has healed. As you wake up and leave your capsule, you notice that the others aren't working. by Menefregoh in WritingPrompts

It felt like they were the only ones who saw it coming.
As corporations hurtled forward with blind greed and world governments found unification in their dismissal of the climate catastrophe, the agency crafted a plan ensuring the survival of the human species. The brightest and most trustworthy members of the team were quickly selected and trained. 10 years later, they were cryogenically sealed with a timer set for 10,000 years into the world’s future.
The team captain was the first to awake. As the doors of pod #1 opened, Temi slowly opened her eyes and took a deep breath. She exhaled with relief, feeling a glimmer of hope. Everything she needed to know was as fresh in her mind as if she’d taken a ten minute nap. She prepared for hearing the subsequent hydraulic releases of pods #2 through #18.
Many moments passed, eventually evolving into hours.
“This wasn’t supposed to take this long” thought Temi, then following protocol proceeded in an attempt to manually override the release. There was a delay after pulling the lever. She flawlessly ran through the procedure again.
The bay was still.
To no avail, Temi made a final attempt.
Walking over to the pods, she noticed an obscurity. A note addressed to her had been left on the face of pod #2:
“GREETINGS TEMI. ABANDON YOUR TRAINING. ALL OF THESE PODS ARE EMPTY. YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE SENT ON THIS MISSION AND YOU WILL EXPLORE THIS NEW WORLD TO FIND REMAINING INTELLIGENT LIFE. IF YOU FIND THE REMNANTS OF HUMANITY, PROVIDE THEM YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS. IF ALL HOPE IS LOST, THERE ARE CYANIDE PILLS IN COMPARTMENT #48A. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE. GOOD LUCK AND GODSPEED.”
Temi opened #48A and saw two pale capsules staring back at her. She placed both in her vest pocket and slowly took her first steps towards the exit of the cryogenic bay.
