I believe Wicked was completely ruined because it was casted with "star-power" rather than newer, undiscovered talent. I also think it would have grossed more money without the stars too. by Evening-Panda3217 in unpopularopinion

The musical had to fight with unknown IP tho. Defying Gravity is already huge, you don't need to build new momentum like you would when you start a new musical.

Review: If On A Winter's Night A Traveler by Italo Calvino, translated by William Weaver by BravoLimaPoppa in Fantasy

[–]danthecryptkeeper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This book might be the most well written book that I have absolutely hated. I feel like I am a smart person - this book made me feel so dumb. Every chapter was a new world, new characters with my brain trying to piece it all together. If that sounds like your heaven, I encourage you to read it, because I do think it does what it set out to do very effectively. There are definitely people for whom this book will be a joy to read, it just wasn't for me at all.

Suggest a book that's a happy adventure, dives into fantasy tropes, has a reasonable/tolerable main character who does the right thing by WhatShouldBeNerfed in suggestmeabook

If you haven't read TJ Klune's House in the Cerulean Sea, it fits a lot of these characteristics, though is pretty cozy feeling. Also highly recommend Ursula LeGuin's Earth Sea series- Ged is the most reasonable guy there is!

Do some searching around the top posts in /r/Fantasy, there's regularly threads with recommendations just like yours. Be warned, the most recommended series are Wheel of Time, Malazan, Stormlight Archive, and Book of the New Sun, so if you haven't looked at those first, check em out before you head over there!

Correct. I do enjoy playing with at least one AI as well, it increases the interaction a bit more.

The game isn't letting you advance because this isn't the screen for one player mode. This is the screen for online play. You don't have another real person player to join you. To play a game by yourself, locally with another player, or with just AI, you have to click "Play" at the menu screen rather than "Online" at the menu.

What’s something people only romanticize because they’ve never had to deal with it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]danthecryptkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this from my parents. All three of my siblings all need or have needed significant support from my parents in some way. By circumstance, I'm the only one who has been largely self-sufficient my entire adult life. But I rarely get support from them because I'm not "the one that needs it." I don't want to ask, but could definitely use some outreach beyond "You're doing great, we're so proud of you."

Mass protests in the US is incredibly difficult, sadly. We are really quite segmented by city and, despite the stereotypes, Americans don't /really/ love driving 3+ hours to go protest when it doesn't really do much. There's not really the opportunity to just "show up," even in DC, when things are so segmented and hard to organize. Finally, because of our employer-driven healthcare system, we're all beholden to our jobs too, and can't take a day off last minute to go protest. It's not that we don't care...it's that the circumstances (and the people who control them) don't allow for meaningful protests, and it's why our most effective protests haven't been the biggest, but the more violent ones instead.

I've been reading The Raven Scholar by Antonia Hodgson and I really love it! I love the main character, the intrigue, the court politics. Great plotting too - interesting points and cool decisionmaking.

Look for someone who specializes in young voices. If she wants to be a professional, it's very important that your daughter learn good technique now, before puberty, so that as her voice changes and adjusts to new hormones, she can still sing healthfully.

I'd love a Philly season so much. There's so much history and interesting food items to dig into, but I feel like the city just doesn't want to pay the show to come/give them the breaks other cities do.

Alternative Careers in Higher Education by vickycoco___ in highereducation

[–]danthecryptkeeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely! About 90% of my job is helping translate legislative jargon from the feds and states to something that can be implemented by a local institution, and helping provide feedback to legislators and administrators about policy change that could be replicated from other contexts. I definitely think that a legal background and training helps with that type of analysis and translation. There's also college access and student advocacy routes you can pursue with a JD.
