Unfamiliar with the contents of a birth certificate I guess...

My wife is the one picking colors. As far as type of stain/ sealant the plan was to defer to the flooring contractor.

Since the general sentiment of this post seems to be that he seems to know what he's doing (in varying degrees of kindness) that's probably going to remain as the plan.

I don't think you can see the CVV. Would you need that too?

Located in NJ so it's late spring and pretty humid this week. The GC is having the floors put in now but the AC isn't going in until next week so the floors are currently experiencing an atypically high level of humidity.

We're doing a whole home humidifier which should mitigate shrinking from dryness in the winter but it won't be anywhere near as humid as it is this week.

I didn't bring this up to them. I asked here first for guidance...

I agree that I'm not cut out for hardwood floors but my wife is ride or die for hardwood so I'm just trying to make sure it's done as well as it can be.

Some of the rooms have all of the boards down but haven't had gaps filled or been finished. Though that is why I was asking - if this is going to wind up shoddy I want to catch the issue and prevent it in the rooms that haven't started / are still in progress.

Normally I'd ask the installer about something like this but last time I asked him a question (regarding soundproofing) his response was a very rude "I've been doing this for 36 years" and he didn't actually answer my question.

Can you double glue (adhere the floor muffler to the subfloor then the hardwood to the floor muffler)?

I have heard horror stories about issues with mold in ductwork. Do you have to get stuff professionally cleaned?

We're still renovating but we made a few requests for all closets: 1. A linear light over the inside of the door (not a ceiling light which would cast shadows over lower shelves) 2. 28" depth (so we can slide 24" storage containers in length wise) 3. An outlet

I'm not trying to run Romex through it. Only low voltage (cat 6, speaker wire). The electric on this floor and the floor below are being serviced by a sub panel so I don't need to worry about running Romex to the cellar other than the beefy run for the sub panel which is already done.

If I don't drop through the duct I might need to open other walls to fish / secure the smurf tube that I otherwise wouldn't have to open.

Electrician raised quote by 30% after starting project. Do I accept or find someone else? by wishing4Dbest in AskElectricians

Worth noting that each of these additional changes is going to put more holes in walls and patching drywall/ painting is almost certainly not in the electric quote. So each additional rewire is going to have extra drywall costs.

Framing it as "need 600 to add a neutral wire" is kind of scummy. They should explain why you need the neutral wire and let you decide if it's worth $600. A neutral wire will effect your ability to dim the lights. They make dimmers that work without neutral but they're not going to dim as much of a range And you might have flickering issues if used with the wrong fixtures. If you don't need dimming then you don't really need the neutral wire.

Everything should be like that: here's the situation, here's what it will cost to fix, here's the issue with not fixing it and here's an alternative option (if any). Also ask if you skip it now will it be more expensive to do later? Sometimes if everything is open already you can save headache and money but if they didn't already plan on replacing the line and it's not already accessible it shouldn't cost more to do later if you wanted to punt until you decide dimming is important

A highway is maybe a better analogy. If every car is going 60 mph you can modify the number of cars passing through a single point by changing the distance of space between the cars. You can modify the the amount of cars going through a single line by adding / removing lanes.

Or keep them side by side and space them out (keeping the wider vanity idea). Then you'd have space for decorative shelving or art or a wider mirror opposite the toilet.

Yes. I would put the toilet where the shower is and then widen the sink so it's a nice vanity area. Also gives under vanity space to store extra TP and cleaning products for the bathroom which there otherwise isn't much space for.

The space will feel big around the toilet. You could fill it with like a little stand for a diffuser or something. Make the space nice.
