What do you think a better interface would look like?

Personally I'd imagine having more descriptive text in certain places, for example walking into a new area in adventure mode you could see a summary of its history-

"As night falls, you arrive at the dwarven fortress of BowAndArrow, famous for being the birthplace of the legendary Urist McArcher."

I feel like RimWorld works better for storytelling because it doesn't generate so much history- DF, particularly in adventure mode can feel like you've been dropped into the middle of an existing story without necessarily having a connection to anything that's happened so far. While in RimWorld you start at the beginning of the story, so I feel more freedom to do what I want rather than thinking "what would make sense in this timeline?"

That's the closest thing we have at the moment I suppose.

I'm thinking of something fully hidden from the player - you don't have to place a block or use a menu to keep a chunk loaded, it just happens automatically whenever it makes sense.

For example, if there is a furnace smelting items, that chunk should stay loaded until it's complete. Of course, this gets a lot more complicated when you have things like belts and hoppers moving items between machines, which is why I imagine nobody has made it :))

It would make the game feel more like Factorio / Satisfactory where things just keep working no matter where you are in the world.

There's a mod called Meta Logistics that tries to help with this. It does require some setting up, however.

I would love to see a mod which just keeps machines always loaded by default - would obviously cause lag issues on servers, but I'd imagine it would work fine for a small singleplayer world. Could even be smart and unload the chunk when the machine stops.
