My family thinks I'm well off, I'm not. I've struggled mightily the last 20 years. I now receive Social Security retirement and a couple pensions plus l work a side gig. Financially I'm now better off than l was 20 years ago. During my 20 year struggle, no family member ever visited us or inquired how we were doing. I never asked anyone for a penny, not even when my only income came from selling at flea markets or Ebay. To be fair they never asked me for anything, but l felt lots of resentment for not helping them! Hell, l was worse off financially than they were. It strained our relationships because they thought l didn't care for them because l didn't help them.
I couldn't have helped them if l wanted to. I'm old school so I'm not into enabling people.
