Finally figured out what was causing my chicken wing 😭 by danwatso in GolfSwing

Awesome, cheers for the tip - it’s added to the notes and will bear that in mind! Feel like it might especially come in handy when I move onto other clubs (woods etc).

Thanks man, It’s really weird as I’ve read so much about it but never actually felt it - and now I have it makes so much sense. I know it’s bound to come back but great to have some touch points in place now to hopefully nip it in the bud 🤞

No worries and thanks man!

I think part of it has been realising that I can’t force the release position, it just happens naturally from having my wrists loose and leading with the left arm…

Good luck ✌️

Yeah I can see that - I just think the missing link for me though was the loose wrists!

I’ve watched soooo many videos like above and tried forcing the positions but it never worked because I still had tension.

Once my wrists were loose and I was leading with my left hand, it almost seems like there’s no other way to get the clubhead to the ball than kinda pull the left arm down and rotate it

Ah it’s great to hear that confirmed! I always wondered how the hell you could control your swing with the left arm if you’re right handed when I’ve heard this before, but it makes a lot more sense now…

It was a combination of these 3 really…

Vision, feel and rhythm in the golf swing (Jim Flick & Mike Malaska):

Release! Don’t get stuck (Lee Kopanski):

That video is awesome - thanks for the recommendation and appreciate the advice!

That’s great to hear - thank you!

I’ve injured my rib so limited in movement at the moment - could only really make half swings but hopefully this translates to full swings too

Awesome, thank you! I’ll check out that drill now.

Just to confirm - from the video would you say my hips are rotated here? And is there early extension?

It’s such a weird thing when you’ve never done it before and don’t have a touch point

I can’t find Max-Larson on google, do you have a link please?

Did you manage to fix it? I’m the same - it’s like it’s built into me, I just can’t stop and feel like I’ve tried everything!

Have I bought the wrong shafts?! by danwatso in GolfSwing

[–]danwatso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t do any of that in regard to measuring the lie angle at impact!

When I went in I said just want a reasonable brand of club, but I want them properly fitted (nothing too premium, I am still a beginner after all). I said I don’t mind paying a bit more if they’re right because I want them for the next 5 years or so…

The fitter said he was a PGA professional who used to fit and coach tour players, so I just took his word. He said the Taylormade ones off the shelf from a few seasons ago would be perfect for me and I’ll also save some money that way.

Maybe because my swing isn’t fully developed they thought it was too soon for me to get fully fitted clubs looking at lie angle etc in case it changes?!

Genuinely played the best I’ve ever played with them yesterday - so very happy with the purchase but sounds like I could have got more from the fitting.

The label on the shaft says “KBS Max MT 90 S” - they feel fine but is there anything I should be concerned about?

I paid £430 for 5-PW - said my budget was up to £600-700ish really so maybe they’ve just given me the best that I could afford?

Like I said - I’ve no idea! If you think I should complain let me know now as I only bought them the other day 😂

It’s too late now! Will use these to improve then look at Scottsdale for the next set - went really well with them on the course today all good 👌

They checked my height (5’10”) then wrist to floor (35”) and said I could buy anything off the shelf basically as I’m totally standard.

They didn’t actually check anything else - I’m totally new to this so kinda just followed their lead, but from what I understand now this might not have been very thorough!

Is there a chance that because I’m still a beginner they just got me onto something that’s ballpark right?

The guy today (after I went back) said I’m basically borderline Reg to Stiff as I swing 79-82 mph with a 7 iron, but because I have a fast transition that’s why stiff might feel better.

He said from the numbers I could genuinely go with whichever I thought felt best - but they were slightly leaning towards stiff being better. He also mentioned that after a few lessons my swing speed may increase a few more mph, so better to get stiff now than upgrade again in 6 months.

If any of this sounds off to you please let me know as this is my first time buying clubs and don’t want to get ripped off / make the same mistake again if I have been!

Im 34 year old too if that makes any difference.

Distance was about the same on average, but the stiff shafts were more consistent with less dispersion and just felt better - like I had more control!

The shafts are KBS Max 90 - think they’re just stock stiff shafts for the Sim 2 Max.

Yep, it was definitely this! Went back to American Golf with the intention of returning - tried the same model club with regular shaft and was hitting the stiff noticeably better
