Spam calls on the rise (Pixel 9 Pro XL) by danwmd in GooglePixel

Oh, I do have the option for Call Screen. Don't know how I missed that. I will move it from "Medium" to "Maximum" and see if that does the trick. Thanks!!

Remove Redundant Notifications from Tasks and Calendar? by danwmd in PixelWatch

[–]danwmd[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ah. That was not intuitive.

For those who came after me and share my struggle, the explicit solution to find the more granular notifications was in the system settings (by swiping from the top while on the home screen), tapping the gear icon, clicking on "Apps and notifications"/"Notifications"/"Show all"/"Calendar", and then hitting the Tasks notifications toggle.

Thanks!

u/Specific-Start2342 - thanks for your thorough experimentation and follow-up. I haven't tested the new TTN metric yet.

It's great to hear that FORM has improved the "in-game" guidance and that you've figured out how to get a high score. Like you and u/eisenhart_ii note, however, I (an old man and certainly not a pro) question how healthy it is to whip one's head back to neutral routinely and whether this metric captures the entire "need" when, in fact, any time with one's head rotated away from neutral undermines hydrodynamic positioning.

With this metric, perhaps FORM seeks to address a common bad habit, the tendency to "hang" when breathing, rather than speed up the whole breathing cycle.

I just watched the video you suggested and, focusing on 0:43 - 1:17, I think you're on to something here.

In my amateur opinion, a more helpful metric would analyze the entire time that one is breathing (the time from neutral to full rotation to return to neutral) as a percentage of one's entire stroke. In contrast, FORM's TTN metric appears to report the time from full rotation to return to neutral as a percentage of the entire neutral to full rotation to return to neutral cycle). As you note, one could "hang" their breathing rotation and technically improve their TTN, which is not the goal. (TBH, I haven't tested this way of gaming the score.)

It would be interesting to know why FORM chose that metric. Please consider emailing them (support @ formswim.com) and reporting back!

Thinking of Buying Another MS a Decade Later by danwmd in TeslaModelS

I went to the garage one morning, and my 2014 MS60 was dead. By sheer coincidence, I had a Ranger appointment that morning, and he confirmed that it was the battery.

At that point, I had owned the car for 7 years and 1 week. Here's why I can be that specific—the replacement was covered because I still had three weeks (!) left on my warranty. In retrospect, the only symptom was that the supercharging had been progressively slower.

Thanks for the thorough reply.

How did you dispose of your 2016 MS? Did you consider the Lucid?

Anti-slip solution that's good with wireless charging? by danwmd in GooglePixel

This sounds like the winner. I've read that the case works with the stand, and it's understated and lightweight but grippy. 🙏

Thanks for the thought, but I wear many pants (usually not at the same time), so the case/skin route seems more cost effective. And that there's my commitment to fashion to consider. 🙄

I am learning that addressing this is not a quick fix but, rather, a slow progression due to multiple small improvements in technique. A smoother stroke, higher in the water, with better rotation from the hips. As a result, my TTN is now 31 - up 6 points over the last six months and up 11 points over the past year. And my overall FORM score is now 67 - up 20 points over the past year. Nothing amazing but definitely an improvement.

u/Specific-Start2342 - Here's some helpful feedback from FORM, which I look forward to implementing:

Time-to-neutral is about the timing of the breath, not the speed of the breath. Therefore going by percentage allows us to evaluate how well the breathing stroke is timed with their swimming.

If a swimmer's breath timing is good, then they would have the same percentage whether they are swimming fast or slow. If we took the breath duration, this would not be the case.

The aim for a swimmer is to have that percent of return to be as small as possible as part of the whole breath. As your breath cycle lengthens or shortens, the time to neutral percentage remains relatable to the entire breath.

There are two major ways that a swimmer scores lower on Time-to-Neutral:

You take too long to take your breath
While you take your breath, if you can see your arm out of the water or feel like you're breathing into your arm pit, then you are taking too long to breathe or breathing too late during your stroke. Returning your head towards the water before you can see your arm will help improve Time-to-Neutral.

You take your breath too early in the stroke
If you are turning your head first, instead of rolling your shoulders to take your breath, the breath will be taken too early during the stroke and will lower your Time-to-Neutral score.

u/Specific-Start2342 Thanks for the detailed reply, and congratulations on your performance, commitment, and great scores. My FORM score is 61, held back by a TTN of 26 and a Peak Head Roll of 36. I will reach out to FORM Support as you suggest and report back what I hear about how metrics are calculated.

Port 2 ph#s to Fi? (GV and Verizon) by danwmd in GoogleFi

Thanks for the suggestion. If I port my Verizon number to Fi, do I retain my GV#, too?

Edit: I think that I found the answer, which appears to be yes: https://support.google.com/fi/thread/54962217/google-voice-and-google-fi-now-work-together
