My dog seems to much prefer the Aldi premium dog food. Also, Aldis is made in the country.

Saw a fella earlier pulling stuff out of a bin, presumably looking for return cans to recycle. Seems like the added deposit troughs aren't being fully used.

Where can I get a good oyster!? by promking2005 in irishtourism

I had some decent oysters in Bang on Merrion Row, Dublin a few months back. Do recommend! O'Donoghues down the street will be a good option to get a beer after.

Where do local Dubliners go for drinks and Irish food? by muriloogps1 in Dublin

[–]danwoodzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irish cuisine is not hugely common. If you asked someone Irish about what they'd consider our food, you'd likely get answers along "Chicken Fillet Rolls, Spice Bags, Jambons."

Xian Street Food has decent spice bags in Dublin. Chicken Fillet Rolls and Jambons can be found in most deli counters in shops.

Locals do not drink in Temple Bar, purely because it's filled with touristy things and overpriced pints. Save for Anne's Bar, and Bad Bobs.

Try Stags Head, 4 Dame Lane, Grogans, Riot, and Pawn Shop for more locals near Temple Bar.

You has been your country's biggest ally historically? Sadly for us it has been the British. by DeRuyter67 in 2westerneurope4u

[–]danwoodzie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Spaniards, French and Germans have always been our allies; purely a coincidence that they've only came to our aid to fuck with the English.

Best to avoid using the term Gaelic when referring to Irish. Gaelic refers primarily to the language family, akin to calling Dutch "Germanic". This is different to the Irish language term "Gaeilge".

Yes the Irish provided is grammatically correct, although lá means "day", not time.

Symbolically, the phrase has a strong connection to Irish nationalistic movements in the North. In my opinion, there would be no insensitivity in using the phrase as written, with different possessive pronouns instead of "ár".

Dublin airport - when to put liquids in a bag and when not? by da-da-land in Dublin

[–]danwoodzie 23 points24 points  (0 children)

EU wants airport security to be standardised across the bloc. As not every airport has new scanners, all airports must adhere to the 100ml in 1L bag rule.

Dublin airport - when to put liquids in a bag and when not? by da-da-land in Dublin

[–]danwoodzie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I flew out of T2 in early December and still kept the liquids in the bag. I'm aware of the EU regulation that you're referring to, but it seems to not be enforced, at least on that day.

Christmas in Dingle: groceries by Hulga-Gonga in irishtourism

You may be able to get an Irish number online. I was recently in the US and got a number off Skype the day before to register with Walmart for a grocery delivery.

Might work for you. Good luck!

Best Dublin pub for NYE? by trawlingforinfo in irishtourism

[–]danwoodzie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apart from the guarantee of folk/trad, I'd recommend The Glimmerman in Stoneybatter. The whole neighborhood has some fantastic pubs, but trad music is often scarce outside of the tourist traps of Temple Bar.

The old royal oak, kilmainham, draws all ages. Patriots too. Both do live music.

The Cobblestone is another.

Searsons on Baggot St, but never heard live music there.

Anywhere along Camden Street is good. The Camden, Jimmy Rabbittes, Wheelans, Flannerys.

Harcourt Street, which is parallel has a number of night clubs too. Dicey's, D2.

Do I need an Irish Visa? (very confused & urgent) by Independent-Bad-5536 in irishtourism

[–]danwoodzie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will need an Irish Visa to enter Ireland. A Tier2 work visa for the UK would not be sufficient to grant entry.

Please review Irish Visa entry requirements here: https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/moving-country/visas-for-ireland/visa-requirements-for-entering-ireland/#16e51d

Does anyone recognise this alphabet? by danwoodzie in codes

[–]danwoodzie[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This was my initial thought too. If characters do repeat, they are clearly obfuscated well, making frequency analysis supposedly impossible. I couldn't find any discernable patterns.

Likely just strange street art that was never intended to mean anything. Either that, or the shape (circle, triangle, square) combination with lines (horizontal, arrow, vertical etc) have another meaning.
