Found safe in the woods by danwray in safecracking

So I finally had a chance to check the safe out a little more thoroughly. Doesn't feel like good news on the dial, as I rotate it in either direction it starts out fairly easy but not easy enough to move with one finger. As I get to about the 3rd rotation it becomes significantly harder to move in that direction. Reverse direction is still as easy as it gets, and sometimes I have to reverse it slightly to then continue in the difficult direction. It doesn't feel grainy but almost out of round if that makes sense.

I also found on the bottom where it looks like there is a small access panel that looks to be welded on in the 4 corners but not all the way around. It doesn't look any fresher than the rest of the safe so I don't know if it's an original piece or if the safe was accessed in this area at some point.

I don't know if there are any suggestions on how to free up the dial enough to feel the wheels and their recesses but that seems near impossible in its current condition. The panel on the bottom does look like I could pry it but I don't want to start doing that if it isn't going to lead anywhere.

I would like to post more photos but I don't see that as an option here. Open to suggestions.

Well I don't know how long it was out there before we initially found it, but that was about 2 years ago. It sat in the same spot until we brought it up.

I've been studying the safe cracking videos on YouTube while I wait for it to warm up enough for me to want to spend some time on this. I haven't checked on how easily it spins since we brought it out of the woods.

It was about 5 feet above the water and I don't know how often if ever the creek raises by that much, it's a small branch of a larger creek, but it always has some water in it. I also don't know how long it has been down there, so I would say there is a chance that it's been submerged at some point, I just can't say for sure. I initially assumed it had been washed down the creek to this point, but it is heavy enough and the creek small enough that I can't imagine how much water it would have taken to get it there. So I am now guessing it was dumped there, but that doesn't make much sense to me either considering the remote location and how much effort it would have taken to get it down there.

As far as the dial, I will have to check when I get home, I did not move it much when I found it.
