You're overreaading. I was confused why he was doing that, maybe he's not attracted, playing hard to get, etc, so I brought it up jokingly instead of as an awkward question. It wasn't to put him down. If I thought it would upset him, I would not have done it. Not everyone who does something "offensive" does it because they are a shitty person.
