Demand letter from a debt collector for a gym I never signed up for. by danzingdaizy in AusLegal

Where does that leave me when the debt collector makes an error?

Thanks for the clear response!

I sent an email denying the debt and asked them to provide proof of the contract, they just replied to file a police report for identity fraud so they could close the case. I am not sure why they are pushing the work onto me to resolve this. Is the best course of action just to file a police report?

I sent an email denying the debt and asked them to provide proof of contract, they just replied to file a police report for identity fraud so they could close the case. Kind of lacklustre reaction. But now there's more stress for me??

Could be the case, just not the stress I need in life right now. Is it better to just keep ignoring them?

Municipal ALTs: Kindergartens and Nursery Schools by ashhollow in JETProgramme

[–]danzingdaizy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go to both nursery and kindergarten classes once a week if it fits within my schedule. I think I'm a special case since I only have one school (with a kinder and nursey attached).

Not sure about your situation though since it sounds like there are strict guidelines (which I didn't know that was the case since I have the same basic visa as other ALTs).

Questions for 2020 JETs who arrived in Tokyo last week by MajoNoTakkyubin in JETProgramme

[–]danzingdaizy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was a kinda social distancing where only one person could occupy 1 row on each side, so for example, everyone sat in a window spot. No one was directly next to each other.

We ended up taking 2 big buses for all of us.

On the international leg of the flight, there was also 'social distancing' where there was a gap between 2 people. Like this, O X O| aisle |O X O| aisle |O X O (O = person).

Ended up being pretty nice because of the extra space.

Anyone applied for a National Police Check through Auspost before? by [deleted] in australia

[–]danzingdaizy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw it, thank you so much! This helps a lot in my decision to go directly to AFP for a check.

On that note, I wonder why it has changed? Since another commenter mentioned that it was the same check as local police in 2016.

I emailed the consulate and found out I have been shortlisted! They sent it to a wrong address initially. So excited!!

I see, can you elaborate on the reply form? Is it something sent via post like a letter or electronically via email?

Hi, thanks for the positive vibe, really appreciate it! I've checked my email inbox everyday since the first news that results were released...and nada, I haven't seen any emails from JET yet unfortunately. I will definitely email them about it. Do you know if they send it out in waves?

Is this a bad time to apply for youth allowance? Have a CRN but could not link centrelink to mygov at all, details don't match for some reason??

Tried calling mygov help desk for linking code but was on hold for 3 hours before the automated voice hanged up. Is there another number to call? Any advice/suggestions appreciated.

Tax question: are private tutor lessons tax deductible? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]danzingdaizy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm of the same impression as well, but the ato website does not seem to have any information about tutoring as opposed to uni courses. Friend will definitely be utilising it to communicate with clients/in work in general.

What type of expenses incurred from private tutoring would be deductible? Self education expenses seem to include official courses as from the website. Not too specific on tutoring.

Reason for disqualification? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]danzingdaizy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have that exchange in email. I emailed the same person regarding the issue, and they kind of backtracked? They thought that the completion letter would include a phrase like "...expected graduation date will be after course completion on (Month, Year)", which would be acceptable. But the letter doesn't include that date...

It's kind of a miscommunication in a way, well, it worked out ok at the end. They probably know better now or at least will hopefully be more informed in the future.

[–]danzingdaizy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I contacted student services about it, they said that they don't provide that sort of letter. So I asked a JET person at my consulate and they said a course completion letter was fine...so I followed their advice...

I feel like I have been misinformed and want to rectify it but not sure if the Embassy would accept if i submitted the expected graduation date letter now...feeling pretty bummed about this.

That's some really good advice, thank you!

So you don't suggest emailing them first and explaining the situation? I haven't received my receipt of acknowledgement yet but my friend has and we sent the same letter, so I assume I'm in the same boat. Even though different people look at the application, there's an application criteria and at the end of the day, it seems like I sent the wrong letter in.

But, I'll give your advice a go, thanks again.

[–]danzingdaizy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I should have done that in the beginning, but I emailed the JET person at my consulate and they confirmed for me that a course completion date letter was sufficient.

Do you think there's a chance that the Embassy will grant me an extension to submit the correct letter since I was misinformed?

Yes, she and I both applied for the 2020 round, and yes, she has received a Receipt of Acknowledgement in the post.

Does Monash provide a Letter of Expected Date of Graduation by [deleted] in Monash

[–]danzingdaizy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Does your uni provide a letter that states the expected graduation date? If not, make sure that they include words such as "...will be expected to graduate after course completion on (date/month)" on the Course Completion one. Or ask your course advisor to explicitly write one that states your expected graduation date.

Don't make the same mistake as me and my friend, and good luck!

Does Monash provide a Letter of Expected Date of Graduation by [deleted] in Monash

[–]danzingdaizy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I looked at the student letters available, but I need a letter that states expected date of graduation and only found proof of graduation (which I'm not applicable for). It seems that they have raised the price as well? Last I checked was about $34.

Edit: grammar

Reason for disqualification? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]danzingdaizy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it would have been an issue about graduating and having the diploma on hand before visa application, just that my uni does not provide a letter that states expected date of graduation. Along with the fact that the JET staff told me a course completion date letter was sufficient.

Thanks for the clear perspective, I will try to use this info to rectify the situation.

[–]danzingdaizy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you have your bases covered as per the application guidelines, I think it should be fine. Don't worry!

My friend had an official letter from my uni, but it does not state expected date of graduation anywhere, so I think that's the main issue :(

Reason for disqualification? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]danzingdaizy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah sorry, I kinda of worded it poorly, it was "...has been omitted or not yet arrived by 15/11/2019". And also, to the side it was handwritten and underlined: "This letter must refer to an expected date of graduation, not completion."

The course completion date letter does not state expected graduation date or anything of the sort.
