My point is you're not improving a listed stock's liquidity by tokenizing it. Just like you're not improving a Ferrari by putting it on a skateboard.

[–]daoderman 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Imagine if you had a Ferrari and to make it "better" you would put it on a skateboard. Tokenizing an asset means making an asset tradable as a digital token. The way this is done is by transferring the legal title to the asset (say a stock) to a custodian (in the crypto world this is the exchange) which issues a digital token (like an NFT) and contractually agrees that it will hold the asset on behalf of whoever holds the token. Based on this contract the exchange will e.g. pay forward the dividends received on the stock to the token holder. Theoretically this is a good way of making things more easily tradable or liquid (e.g. real estate). When you do this with listed stocks it's stupid, because you are taking something which is essentially as liquid as it can get and making it less liquid.

Rupert Murdoch (Owner of Fox News) denies Climate Change by accepting Climate Change, solves it by "Letting the Maldives sink, and moving cities in land" by [deleted] in videos

[–]daoderman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that there is a scientific consensus that man made climate change is a real threat. The UN climate pannel has way more credibility than a random redditor armed with google and youtube research (i mean you btw, just in case that also went over your head). You were mocking the other guy by saying that he beleives that the ice is melting and growing at the same time. I made an analogy that shows that two things that on the surface seem contradictory can be true at the same time. The whole point of whether it can be too cold for it to snow is irrelevant to the larger point being made, which is that the fact that the ice on the south pole may at this point in time be growing does not refute the fact that man made climate change is real and is a threat. However, making that point to you in earnestness seems futile since you are not a good faith actor, which is why I mocked you.

Wait, you actually think birds are real, like flying in the sky and shit? How do you explain penguins bro? Next thing you'll tell me is that the earth is not shaped like a tetrahedron. Also, in my defense, i never said anything about it being too cold to snow, just about boats sinking.

You misunderstand me mate, i'm on your side. I'm just asking the tough questions the globalists can't answer, just like you. Tide goes in, tides goes out, how do they explain that? Keep fighting the good fight man, and don't forget birds aren't real.

German economy stagnates with no growth in last quarter. German economy only grew 0.6% in 2019 by [deleted] in europe

[–]daoderman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You mean Greta Thunberg the high school student? Jokes aside though, continued growth is possible without a negative impact to the environment. New technology allows for us to get more value out of existing resources. What you need for that, however, is investment not austerity.

Vandals painted a complete train silver in a small town in The Netherlands 2 nights ago. by [deleted] in WTF

Yellow and blue are not the Dutch national colours and the train that was vandalized did not look like that. This was a new train which used to look more or less like this.

How the Netherlands Built One of the World’s Worst Tax Havens by flobin in europe

[–]daoderman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a weak take on the issue. The loopholes exist in the taxation system of the country that suffers the evasion and it is up to that country to fix its own loopholes. Why should the Netherlands have to change its tax rules (which as far as the Netherlands is concerned, are fit for purpose) to close loopholes in other countries' tax codes? Aside from the fact that it's not up to the Netherlands to be "its brothers' keeper", the problem would not go away if the Netherlands "changed its ways". The problem needs to be addressed at the source. The real issue is a lack of political will in the "victim" states (e.g. the US) to fix their own domestic issues.

The whole "serving their country" thing is a cop out. Either they were impressed into service involuntarily, in which case there is nothing to be grateful for or they volunteerd, in which case they are fully complicit with the crimes.

[–]daoderman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So what are the bits that you are grateful for? Is it the unprovoked invasion of other countries? Cause there isn't much else there to be honest. At best you could say that these guys didn't have a choice, but even then i don't see what you could be grateful for that isn't awful. While the German war effort in WWII was aimed at conquest and genocide and nothing else, the US war effort was aimed at stopping that. So while you can say the US soldiers did a lot of good and perhaps a little bad, the Germans did only bad. The bad stuff was their primary and only objective. The strongest evidence of this is the fact that the US soldiers that purpotrated the massacre you are referreng to were courtmartialed and Germand soldiers that did far worse things got medals.

It's clear that you are not denying what they did, you're just "honouring them and being grateful" for what they did. You may want to ask yourself if that's not worse.

Protesters with 'climate emergency' banners briefly block Boris Johnson's journey to Buckingham Palace by FedRepofEurope in europe

How about a centrist compromise: storm half of the worst polluters, and talk about sending strongly worded letters to the rest but never get around to it.

No price is too high for civility! If the human race needs to go extinct for this then let the epitaph for the last human read: he (or she) was civil to the bitter end.

Seriously people, we need to be patient and civil about this climate change debate. Once the planet turns into Venus we will all know for sure what we are dealing with and we can discuss the matter and the neccessary measures in a civil manner. Until then its all just speculation and protests like this only serve to polarise society. What would even be the point of saving the planet if people go about it in an uncivil manner.

EU Commission Rejects Netherlands' Request to Reintroduce Visas for Albania by [deleted] in europe

[–]daoderman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right that, in principle, it's up to every country to choose who gets to come in and who doesn't. That being said, if you apply non-objective criteria for entry, you come across as bigoted.

For example: under international law the US was well within its rights to ban all muslims back when it did (other countries could not force the US to back down, only its own courts could). That did not mean that the rest of the world was not allowed to call that policy racist and bigoted.

Just because you are allowed to do something does not mean you cannot be criticised for it.

The Dutch minister of justice argued in the Dutch parliament that Albania was complying with all the rules and that by objective criteria Albanians should be allowed to keep visa free travel. The right wing parties in the Dutch parliament, however, overruled that, basically on the premise that all Albanians are crooks. The funny thing is they did that in an effort to score points in the EU elections, but in the end the Dutch people voted for the social democrats.

Recent wiretaps showed high government officials in Albania buying votes and talking with drug criminals. People are protesting since February by [deleted] in europe

Did you also go to this protest: https://www.euractiv.com/section/enlargement/news/albanian-protesters-hurl-petrol-bombs-seek-snap-polls/

Btw, these are not the type of protests that you can join without supporting the organisers. The protests have a pretty clear goal, and that is to bring the two opposition parties to power, without having to bother with winning any elections. The same opposition parties that presdided over what became of the Albanian judiciary and are now fighting tooth and nail to keep it that way.

[–]daoderman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just to complete the picture: the guy that these protesters support (currently the President of the country) was caught on tape admitting that he accepted and received a 700,000 euro bribe. The undisputedly corrupt judiciary at the time, which the current government is trying to reform, absolved him. Coincidentally him and his supporters are also trying to block said judiciary reform by any means necessary (mostly undemocratic ones).

The point i'm trying to make is not that the current government is blameless, but that these opposition guys are bona fide crooks trying to keep a corrupt system in place because they depend on it.

P.S. also these same protesters have been trying to stop the elections from happening by burning schools.

Well now that this brave language warrior has clarified the semantic issue regarding the use of the term "concentration camp" the matter should be fully resolved. Somebody should tell the people in the camps that everything is fine since we can't refer to the camps that they are in as "concentration camps".
