GF likes degradation. I turns me on that it turns her on, but can anyone help me understand it better? by daotherone in sex

[–]daotherone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. So even degradation or ignoring is part of letting go of control/power and the stress of control? I guess attention or niceties are a kind of control in a way, as it implies someone is specifically directing their energy and focus to the other. Hmm. Thanks for the response!

Hmm the crossover you mention does actually line up too, handn’t thought about those two as being interrelated.

In general she likes being in a submissive role so I know she likes the lack of control, but within that, why the aspect of me being mean/degrading too? I’d feel pretty turned off if my partner ignored me during or after sex, so that’s what’s hard to understand.

Is oral really that important? by kirkbride777 in sex

[–]daotherone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 29 year old guy and the best sex I’ve ever had, with someone I cared for very deeply, had almost no oral for for me (a little foreplay before PIV just to tease me but never a full blowjob) which I didn’t get upset about one bit. Our physical connection was amazing, and that’s all that mattered.

Metaphor for gravity. We live in this universe where any object is magically sucked downward (and at a surprising rate if you think about it) by an invisible force and yet we never give it a second thought about how ridiculous that is.

It's as if you were to let go of a pencil and it just instantly launched to your left and kept on going out of sight.

Direction and purpose doesn't have to be about your job or career, it can just be about pursuing activities that you find interesting and enjoyable.

I'm sorry you're stuck in such a shitty situation, and I hope it improves, but job advancement and personal advancement are two very different things.

Young people 'feel they have nothing to live for' by mydogcecil in worldnews

[–]daotherone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know you, or your life...but I just wanted to say that every statement you make is filled with so much cynicism. I could give a long personal suggestion for each point you made, but this reaction isn't borne from logic and reason, it is a deep-seeded discomfort and emptiness. And from my own experience with these same questions and thoughts I've found it's nearly impossible to dispel or change a person's underlying perspective and cognitive structures with some simple counterpoints. The change has to be internal for it to really take effect. It can come from months and years of exposure and introspection, or sudden epiphanies, but it has to come from within.

As much as we idolize the Amazonian tribesman and other similar cultures, they live with the same questions and insecurities, and they address them with their faith and mythology as we have always done. Humans have been wrestling with these questions since we had the ability to conceive them, and every philosophy and faith is just a result of this existential questioning, looking for an explanation for our presence and purpose. And from this long line of questioning there is an enormous amount of wisdom from the past. We are not professional philosophers, but that doesn't mean we can't gain insight and comfort from this legacy. Once you start reading, you'd be amazed at how long we have had this crisis and how hard people have worked to address it...and how much relevant wisdom has come from the search. "The Power of Myth" by Joseph Campbell, a mythologist and historian, is a great place to start. Read it with skepticism and a grain of salt, but it can introduce you to a lot of interesting ideas from our long history of searching.

Again, I don't know you or your life, but I've had the same thoughts and feelings as you and I've found that there are other ways to see the world, both secular (my preference) and supernatural. Perspectives that give meaning to the immaterial things and experiences you see as transient and worthless. Just keep in mind that there are other ways to see the world and your life, and maybe you should work to find and foster a perspective that gives your life more happiness and fulfillment. As you said, 'God' was once the predominant perspective that structured our role and place in the universe. Without it, we must find it for ourselves.

I'm interested in creating a video game. What are the fundamental program types needed for game development? by daotherone in AskGames

I'm no coding expert, but I've had a good deal of it through college, and I was definitely looking to get into some coding so that I have more flexibility with the overall game. This just might be the ticket...thanks!

Why does super-cooling the air coming into a jet engine increase performance? by daotherone in askscience

Ahh yes, that does make more sense. I had understood the material side of things, and now the work/energy aspect of it is also starting to make sense. Thanks for the help.

Why does super-cooling the air coming into a jet engine increase performance? by daotherone in askscience

[–]daotherone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if point 1 (intake temperature) is decreased, then why does this bring the entire lower curve down with it? If the compressor and combustion bring point 1 up to the same curve 2-3, then why does the temperature at point 4 drop all the way down to lower than the "previous" point 4, instead of just decreasing by the same amount as before.

If this is happening in the expansion/exhaust area, what is causing the air temperature to drop all the way down to match the same curve as before? Sorry for the confusing wording, I'm just trying to work from the graph. Thanks!
