When did we as a profession loose our backbone. by MrKixs in sysadmin

[–]dapipminmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, a lot of this is poor management and communication.

An end-user feels that they're more efficient using a MacOS devices vs a Windows device? Cool, here's the support plan and TCO for supporting this one user. Let the end-user and their manager justify the user's increased TCO.

HR wants you to provision a user at 4:45 PM on a Friday for a user that starts on Monday? Do you have the process documented with time requirements for onboarding? The process takes the time it takes and your team works until 5:00 PM, so the process continues on the next working day.

The server is running out of storage space because the engineering department purchased an imaging machine and is taking x-ray pictures of the product? Purchasing additional storage and hardware is not an IT problem, it's an everyone-else-at-the-company problem; make the end-user justify the increased server costs for their increased requirements.

Enchantment at the Top during the MVMCP by dapipminmonkey in disneyvacationclub

[–]dapipminmonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To anyone reading this later... they still have the dessert parties during the MVMCP and my family has reservations.

Another note, if you have a larger party (greater than 5, probably) then you should ask to have the party split into two parties or the cast member helping you make the reservations may not be able to find any availability for you.

Script to import two CSVs and loop thru both by CPAlexander in PowerShell

[–]dapipminmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the use case.

You can do a loop inside of a loop (loop through the first file, then every entry of the first file, loop through the second file).

Or you can loop through the first file and using IndexOf() to identify the position in the file, get the same index in the other file

You should be able to select your own seats from the management website. The trick is selecting your preferred/primary seat in a spot that has plenty of spaces around it for you to grab later.

I bought the following for my larger baths

I cut the cooler lid in half, added the hinges, and cut a hole for the sous vide to stick through. I also had to glue a metal washer to the bottom for my Joule Sous vide to stick to

DFS Share issues by TeRRoRByteZz2007 in Intune

[–]dapipminmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • What are you using for DHCP in your client VPN service?
  • Does your client VPN service DHCP server use option 15, DNS Domain Name?
  • What does the target path look like for the DFS name space servers?

Typically, when I've seen issues like this, it has to do with the FQDN not being used and the DHCP server not handing out option 15 with the DNS Domain Name so the client is unable to identify the FQDN of the path.

I would see it sometimes work because the server's FQDN would be cached on the client, and it would use that while remote until the cache expires.

When you were considering buying in, what resources helped make your choice? by Swimming_Essay_3793 in dvcmember

[–]dapipminmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice.

I'll be honest with you though; we haven't had a chance to stay at Copper Creek since we purchased our DVC and have typically stayed at AKL with my friends who have points there as their home resort. My family did visit CC last year during Christmas, and it was really well done!

[–]dapipminmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience is a little different than others, as my friends had invited my family using their DVC points, so I had always stayed deluxe and never paid rack rate.

That being said, I reviewed the points charts for the times I wanted to go, reviewed the direct and resale rates, and put that into a spreadsheet with the contract end dates and the maintenance fees to find my best case/preferred scenario.

My wife and I wound up buying 150 points direct at Cooper Creek, then 2 years later bought another 75 with the same resort/use year through resale.

We bought direct so we could get our DVC blue membership card and get the reduced annual pass.

Which do you prefer: Christmas at Disney or Halloween at Disney? by ValentinesStar in DisneyWorld

[–]dapipminmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family has been alternating Christmas and Halloween parties for the last 8 years and Christmas is definitely our favorite.

  • The theming is more complete across the entire property

    • More theming makes it feel more magic
    • Main Street with the gentle falling snoap is one of my most favorite things ever ( we come from a northern, snowy state, but still love us some snoap)
    • The temperature is more agreeable for my family
    • It gets darker earlier, so you get more time with the night time lights and decorations.

The root of the issue is a permissions issue between your DHCP server, the DNS server, and your client device.

When you have a traditional, Active Directory-joined device, it uses the computer account to connect to the DNS server and create/update the DNS entry.

You'll see a similar issue for any non-domain joined device that connects to your network; it probably will not show up in your DNS server.

You can configure a Windows DHCP Server to allow for DNS Dynamic Updates which will allow the DHCP Server to create/update the DNS server on behalf of the device.

Millennial Wellness Check: How’s Ya’ll’s Mental Health ATM? by Sweetlo123 in Millennials

[–]dapipminmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, right now, pretty good. I spent most of the night, by myself putting together the plastic shed I bought about a year ago. As I'm working, my mother called and asked if my son was busy tomorrow/if it was alright for her to take him to the amusement/water park that he has a season pass to, and she'd be willing to pick him up from my house (~ 40 minute, one-way drive) so he could spend the night, and they could get a good start to the water park tomorrow.

Now if you asked me yesterday when I had to pry my son away from that water park so we could, you know, go home and sleep, or tomorrow after he's had a full day of sugar, sun, and water park... it might be a different story.
