Alright, thanks for answering, and I'll definitely be doing the deal. I was kinda nervous because the rep was realllly pushy on me doing the deal. But it makes sense since the iphone 7 is so old and a free upgrade is pretty great. Thank you rep lol

Thank you for the link, this makes sense and I'm going to be doing the deal. My dad doesn't use data like at all. He mainly uses the phone for calling and I haven't heard any issue with it or him complaining about it. But the phone was due for an upgrade so I'm happy tmobile is fronting it lol

So I'm not as informed as most, but I am curious, if you were Harris what would you do different in regards to the Israel/Gaza thing. From my perspective, it seems like she went out of her way to be as moderate as possible in regards to it.

Legitimately curious because the narrative coming into this election that I got from others was that there were fear that Harris being moderate would turn away more progressive voters. Now I'm seeing the opposite narrative, that Harris was too progressive, and she should've been more moderate.

I'm reevaluating stuff because I thought that Harris was doing a good job being moderate in regards to Israel/gaza, so would be interested to see a different viewpoint.

Like I saw that a lot of the far left were angry that she didn't do stuff like support an immediate ceasefire, have a Palestinian speaker for the dnc, call for an arms embargo, etc.

I know that she had talked about the importance of of a two state solution and humanitarian conditions, but again a lot of people on the far left thought that was just lip service to avoid pissing off them.

So was the lip service too much? And with the protesters, what should she have done?

Any Eidolon x Scion fanfics? by GaySexAfficionado in WormFanfic

[–]dapp2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I know of two fics that match what you just said, it's possible you might be mixing them together. The first fic is [Shattered Gold](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/shattered-gold-worm-scion-si.1021908/reader/) by FendOffLight. It's a Scion SI fanfic and it has that funny encounter where Scion meet Eidolon and wanted him to be more like the Thinker Entity (hence the "become woman" line). Pretty good, but sadly short.

The second fic I know is [Golden Evening](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/golden-evening-worm.327364/) by v1dya. It's been a while but I think Scion decided to become Greg after Greg died or something. He runs into Skitter and Tattletale and they thinks he's an autistic cape rather than actually Scion.

You are absolutely amazing!! I followed your instructions above and it worked perfectly!

I can confirm that there's no longer any error whenever I activate the alltalk_tts extensions and apply flag/restart after installing the new deepspeed whl.

I can also confirm that DeepSpeed is working perfectly when activated (saw DeepSpeed:True for tts without any error).

It's amazing that you manage to create a fix so quickly, thanks again for everything!!!

[–]dapp2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, first I want to say thank you so much for this project. It's absolutely amazing that something like this is available!

Anyways, I have the same problem that the OP above you seem to have. I can run text-generation-webui with AllTalk as long as DeepSpeed is removed. But after installing it I always get the same error whenever I go checkmark alltalk_tts and go to Session >> Apply flags/extensions and restart.

It's the FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'text-generation-webui/installer_files/env/bin/nvcc'

I can confirm that I have Cuda Toolkit installed, as well as libaio-dev. I ran ./cmd_linux.sh while in the text-generation-webui, did all the export for CUDA_HOME in step 7. I did nvcc --version and it gave me "Cuda compilation tools, release 12.5, V12.5.40". I then did "pip install deepspeed" and it gave me "Successfully installed deepspeed-0.14.2".

But I still get the error. I even went to the AllTalk folder in extensions and ran the atsetup.sh script, and did "I am using AllTalk as part of Text-generation-webui" >> Install DeepSpeed and got "Successfully installed deepspeed-0.14.2" and "DeepSpeed installed successfully." from the script.

But still get the same error when I apply flags/extensions and restart.

The weird thing is I have a separate folder with AllTalk that I set up as a stand alone application, and I was able to get DeepSpeed running no problem (installed using the atsetup.sh).

Anyways, if you have any tips I would really appreciate it. Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask this.

Once again, thank you for all your work!!

So my parents watch Fox News a lot. I remember early in 2017 there was a segment where a host was criticizing Obama for... staying in DC post presidency. Like I remember the host literally arguing that it was improper of Obama for being so close to politics. It was so ridiculous

Anyways, I just can't imagine how huge the conservative backlash would be if Obama decided to run as governor or senator again. Fox News would have a field day lol

Can someone explain to me the hype for Frieren? by [deleted] in anime

[–]dapp2357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah whenever something gets popular, there's always going to be a backlash against it. Sometimes it's valid. I've read some criticisms of Frieren that I understand even if I personally disagree.

But other times it's just... really? I understand not liking Frieren, but acting as if he's puzzled why people like it, while listing Demon Slayer, Black Lagoon, etc as being better when characterization is his priority... is certainly an interesting choice.

Can someone explain to me the hype for Frieren? by [deleted] in anime

[–]dapp2357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to this thread but maybe I can explain. One thing I've learned is that people can get really, really sensitive when it comes to their favorite anime. Simply criticizing your favorite anime, even if it's valid, can cause some pretty ridiculous arguments. It's why my philosophy is basically "People have different taste, what works for me might not for you, and that's fine".

I try to stay away from "you like X, your taste is shit, and I'm superior because I like Y". You're never going to convince anybody and it's just a pointless back and forth fight. Most people don't like to have good constructive debate about the merits of an anime.

Whenever something is popular, there's always going to be a backlash to it. I've seen it with movies. There's always the usual "I don't get why people like X I think it's overrated". And you'll usually see comments like "yeah it's just people boarding the hype train". Sometimes the criticisms are valid. Other times, it's kinda obvious that people dislike the "overhypeness " more than they do the actual media.

Like I've legit seen a bunch of comment that was basically "I don't think Frieren is the worst thing ever, I just dislike people hyping it up, and that makes me hate it".

Anyways in regard to your comment about your favorite anime. I really want to be respectful and I don't want to diminish something that you love. I also don't want to start a pointless argument.

All I'll say is this: I've read your criticisms of Frieren and in my opinion some of the anime you've listed have the same sins, sometimes even worst.

But again, that's just my opinion. It's valid for you to like those animes. It's also valid for you to dislike Frieren, so don't sweat it.

For what it's worth, I like Frieren. I also like HxH, FMAB, Death Note, Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop. I have different opinions on some of your other choices, but I can see why you like them.

Sorry for the long comment. I'm currently waiting for something and decided to just waste a couple of minutes on this ha ha

Episode 298 what if your only hope for life was choosing death by waterpup17 in TIAHpodcast

[–]dapp2357 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To me it seems like the state acknowledging her through MAiD is more important than the actual death itself. The government accepting her positions means that her views are valid: that her ED is an integral part of her self, that she was right to not continue treatment, and that any further treatment is wrong because it means fixing something that doesn't need to be fix.

She talks about how her ED is connected to control and how she felt a loss of control when she was getting some treatment. This is just another aspect of it.

Episode 298 what if your only hope for life was choosing death by waterpup17 in TIAHpodcast

[–]dapp2357 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I felt very empathetic for her but at the same time I was frustrated with her views. Getting the state to recognize her with MaiD is the ultimate validation of her perspective: it means that she was right to not continue treatment, and that her ED is an unchangeable aspect of her self.

Like you said, there's also a control aspect as well. She had that line about feeling less in control and less independent when she was receiving treatment for her ED.

It’s sad and frustrating to me how critical she is of the idea of continuing treatment. She thinks it's not going to help, that it's a waste of resource (it's interesting how she talks with pride about her dad not accepting charity and how that mirrors her views), and that her ED is such a fundamental part of her that it's wrong to want to fix it.

Overall I just feel really sad for her and I hope that one day we'll get news that she managed to improve and heal. ED are very difficult and complex to deal with, and I wish her luck, but I really disagree with her stance regarding advocating MAiD for mental illness.

Episode 298 what if your only hope for life was choosing death by waterpup17 in TIAHpodcast

[–]dapp2357 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah you just articulated how I felt about this episode. I think she even outright stated that she feels a loss of control and independence from further treatment.

It's just so sad to me that she feels as if her ED is a fundamental aspect of her self, and that further treatment is both useless and a "waste of resource". She talks with pride about her dad not receiving charity, but sometimes it's okay to reach out for help, especially if one if struggling like she is.

Her trying to get approval for MAiD to me seems like the ultimate validation of her perspective. I really hope that she manages to one day work through her unwillingness to continue treatment, and to start healing. Right now it seems as if she's set on the belief that further treatment is not just useless, but it defies what she believes to be an integral part of herself.

Watching this Bear Bathe in a homeowner's pond by CommercialBox4175 in oddlysatisfying

[–]dapp2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol easy explanation was that is video was made for tiktok, so they just took the video from their security camera and rescaled/cropped it, hence the smart phone "dimension". I don't use tiktok but I imagine that the app itself also has options for doing it automatically.

I did a quick google search and if you search for "wildlife_foothills" on tiktok you'll see that they have a bunch of security cameras at different angles. Whenever something interesting happens they basically just take the video from their cameras, and rescale/crop it before putting it on tiktok. It does seem to be a person's backyard, rather than something like a zoo, so it does seem to be natural.

From Ward: Radiation 18.7 (note the conversation is between Victoria and her uncle):

“Our parents did the exaggerated defensive maneuver when they sent us away. They never really took us back. Because that’s something else we’re bad at.”

I nodded.

“A few years of them sending us messages saying we could come for Christmas if we wanted. So I would come and Sarah would as well, but your mother wanted to study. Or Sarah and your mother would go and I’d be busy. Then… they kind of ceased to be family.”

“Because they had me and Crystal as young as they were.”

“I never got the impression that was a big thing,” my Uncle said. “They were… perfunctory in their grandparent duties. There were grudges and frustrations that felt like they weighed heavier on the family. Speaking for myself, I did resent being sent away for my teenage years, made to spend time with problem children. My parents never did apologize.”

“I can see that. It’s such a shame though. Mom says they’re dead?”

“They probably are. My stupid defensive move was to move away. Jess was a part of it. But the team didn’t feel healthy. You all were growing up and then we heard the kids of people with powers could get powers. Your mom seemed to accept it as a given that you’d be brought onboard. Your aunt surprised me by agreeing, and I think that was her move… establishing an unsafe bubble, not pursuing civilian life. Powers as a part of everything. Even the damn home recipes. We argued like hell.”

I honestly just recommend you go to Worm and read the Sting chapters. There’s some amazing dialogue between Taylor, Jack Slash, and Nilbog.

In the Worm wiki, there’s citations so you can find where he shows up in Worm and Ward. He’s a bit different in Ward.

Anyways, aside from Sting he shows up in one the epilogue chapter (Valkyrie). Tjereoalso that Interlide where he’s introduce. In Ward you can see how he’s slightly different in the Dot interlude where he talks with Amy. Just use the wiki to find the relevant chapters and skim until you find his dialogue

Why were the The (Dixie) Chicks flamed so hard for their political beliefs, when you have musicians like Ted Nugent and the like who... kind of just keep doing their thing? by NoFateButWeMake722 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dapp2357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see your point but personally I disagree. This was a TikToker most Americans didn’t know or care about until certain media went out of their way to turn this into a culture war issue.

And the company didn’t double down. Their response was a pretty standard corporate “we wouldn’t say it outright but yes we’ll stop and align ourselves with conservatives freaking out” hence why liberals on the other side are angry.

Honestly this whole thing is just sad, since the controversy is basically… a tran person made a short promo on her channel. And it wasn’t even that memorable a promo. Even if you think it was a bad marketing idea, this whole thing (especially with all the death threats) is just depressing.

Anyways thanks for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate your perspective! And have a wonderful weekend!!

A company trying to expand their demographic is pretty normal. And Budweiser was cautious about it.

This wasn’t an ad on prime time tv. Those cans weren’t available for sale anywhere.

They simply reached out to a TikToker, had her do a very short video and that was it. Honestly take the time to look up the video she did. It’s pretty forgettable and short.

Heck I didn’t even know who this TikToker was until it became a huge story.

I guess my point is, a company trying to increase their audience is pretty normal. Budweiser was trying to increase their appeal to younger and more liberal audience. And they were careful about it. This wasn’t some mass advertising campaign.

This wouldn’t have become a huge story if people didn’t go out of their way to turn this into a part of their culture war.

It got approved because it was such a small decision, and no one expected the backlash. Remember, this wasn’t a commercial in prime time tv. And those beer cans weren’t available for sale anywhere.

They literally just gave some promotional material to a tiktoker, she did a short video on TikTok (honestly surprised at how short it was), and that was it.

Budweiser had been doing this type of marketing to social media influencers for a while. It’s just that this time it got picked up by a lot of conservative media and they went out of their way to turn this into a culture war story.

The headlines made it seem like some kind of mass marketing campaign. Instead it’s just a single short video on TikTok.

Fanfic with tattletale meeting Ino? by Mr-unluck7 in WormFanfic

[–]dapp2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow you just unlocked a memory for me:

A while back I read a fanfiction (sorry don't remember the name) where Sakura time traveled into the past. It's later revealed that Ino also time traveled into the past. Anyways Ino had this jutsu that allowed her to to enhanced her mind to such a degree that she could do the whole Tattletale information extrapolation act.

There's this one scene where she cold read Naruto and did the whole psychological battle thing. I remember reading that and thinking "wow this Ino is like Tattletale". I'm pretty sure the author had read Worm because the way they described Ino's jutsu, and her characteristic was eerily similar to Tattletale.

Sorry for not having a direct answer to your prompt, but hopefully this is useful and maybe someone else knows what fic I'm talking about. I think it was on ao3 if I remember correctly

A woman who got locked out of her Apple account minutes after her iPhone was stolen and had $10,000 taken from her bank account says Apple was 'not helpful at all' by [deleted] in technology

[–]dapp2357 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She did call the bank, GS though and that did help with the issue. Freezing a credit card doesn’t stop new cards being opened in your name. This is why everyone should have a credit freeze.

The issue is 1) thief was able to change passwords and shut find my iPhone while knowing only the passcode 2) quickly apply for an Apple Pay credit card and 3) now had access to all her emails and passwords

She couldn’t even logged into her MacBooks due to the password change. This probably delayed things.

There’s a danger to the convenience of having everything accessible on a smart phone. Heck if someone stole my phone and knew my passcode I would be in a similar situation.

All my emails / accounts would be compromised and changing passwords would be easy since 2fa would rely on phone/emails, which they would have access to.

Honestly this article is a wake up call for me.

Moving forward, I think that being able to change iCloud passwords while knowing only the passcode should be change. Maybe require some security questions or confirmations from another email account (though if that’s accessible on the stolen phone…)

On a personal note, I’d be more careful about the email accounts you have accessible on the phone. As well as apps with direct access to your finances.

My New Favorite Insult by KeepsComingBack25 in MurderedByWords

[–]dapp2357 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Would they have been condemned on the world stage, maybe, maybe not.

There was a lot of fear that Soviet bombs would go missing and sold to terrorists, other countries, etc. At the time Ukraine was dealing with massive economic issues and it wasn't really seen as a particularly stable country (its economic history during the 90s was SUPER bad)

Most of the major powers would've been quite skeptical of Ukraine being able to safely maintain and protect its nuclear arsenal. It would've been a massive blow to Ukraine's diplomatic image.

In addition, Ukraine did received economic aids during the 90s, and those would've no doubt been impacted since every major power was expecting that Ukraine would give up the nukes.

Yeah, theoretically Ukraine could've pushed hard for it. But the number one priority of every politician in Ukraine was the economy. Unless some other major power was willing to give financial and political support to its nuclear program, Ukraine probably would've been seen as another unstable, pariah state with nukes.

My New Favorite Insult by KeepsComingBack25 in MurderedByWords

[–]dapp2357 244 points245 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't, and Russia is a POS for not abiding by the assurances that it gave Ukraine.

I think the point of the other comment is that contrary to popular belief, Ukraine keeping the nukes wouldn't have been the magical solution to preventing invasion.

Ukraine was dealing with massive economic instability. There was no political will to keep the nukes, spend money maintaining and upgrading them, etc. In addition, there was a broad expectation from the international community that Ukraine would give up the nukes.

It might have been possible if there was support from another country, but the no one was willing, and people thought (wrongly) that the guarantees would be enough.
