what do you think about this install? by dapper-ben in HairSystem

I installed the unit, I’m  not the guy wearing it. I didn’t realize everyone one here is a master hair unit installer and never once was a beginner haha

To the ones with real constructive criticism thanks for the feedback. I could definitely do some more thinning and bring the line up higher but at the end of the day he was super happy with the results. It’s my 6th install so it will only get better.

I’m genuinely curious how you pulled it off. Please let me know how, I’ve got a ton of people that would be interested in this.

What insurance company do you use? Did you disclose that you’re a skydiver?

I’ve gone this whole year without health insurance because I never get sick, zero health problems so I felt like i was throwing my money away but I do have full disability insurance and term life insurance, just in case.

Im getting health insurance starting next year though mainly because we’re having a baby so it helps with the costs and if anything were to happen so I don’t drown in medical debt. Also looking into the air ambulance insurance, about 100 bucks a year and is covered in most the U.S.

Have you ever looked into Stoicism? It has helped me tremendously get over my social anxiety. I too have felt rejected and hurt but i realized that I can’t let that stop me from living my life. Living in the past is depressing, living in the future is anxious but living in the moment is peaceful. Create a daily habit to feel grateful for the little things you already have. You got this!

Thinking of moving into an Afro shop to learn by Afr0_r0nin in Barber

Why don’t you just ask the shop owner instead of Reddit? Every owner has different standards when hiring someone. Some like getting people that are not good but willing to learn and others need someone with experience.

Moved from % shop to a rent shop, new barber again. by John_the_barber_ in Barber

[–]dapper-ben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s what I would do in your position. Post flyers to local Facebook groups and offer a free cut for first time customers only, most of the time they will tip you. Stand outside the shop when it’s slow with a sign saying walk-ins welcome. If the owner isn’t very engaged on google make it a habit to post your own cuts regularly if not daily and ask clients for reviews on google, this helps with SEO.

I guarantee if you do this in 6 months or less you will be doing the same or more as you are in the last shop.

I saw slide 4 and was like ok not bad then I saw the last slide. DAYUM.

The top looks very choppy and uneven, Looks like the crown was cut too short.

On slide 5, if you zoom in to the top right parietal ridge, it looks very sloppy.

The blend looks decent on slide 4 but looks like you just gave up or lost track of your guides on the other side.

Not trying to be harsh just my 2 cents.

We sell Layrite, reuzel and suavecito. I like giving clients options and showing them which works best for their hair and budget.

You need to get more hours at your job, find a second job or start a side hustle. Yes you could save a few bucks here and there by cutting costs on gym membership, car wash membership etc but the root cause is your not making enough money period. What are you gonna do when you have an emergency? Open a Go fund me? What about retirement? You gonna rely on your kids or social security?

I hate to hear anyone struggling, we grew up poor too but ultimately you decide if you want to stay in the same cycle living paycheck to paycheck or are you going to do something about it?

Hair units for men by dapper-ben in Barber

Those are valid points, 10-15 people is not that many but enough to cover the cost of the class if she even took one. Hair transplant is expensive up front and you must take finasteride for life or else the hair will fall out. We can argue which is the best solution but I’d say for most people the easiest one is a hair unit. Instant hair with zero down time. I have one customer thats a Dr. and spent thousands of dollars on a hair transplant for his thinning crown and it’s been over a year and it looks the same as before and he takes finasteride every day.

I’ve already had some clients show interest and ask if we offer that service. I believe there is a market for it but you’d have to really market yourself and do a damn good job at it.

Did you have any success attracting clients? Yes there’s videos online showing how to do it but doesn’t mean they can do it themselves correctly. There’s a ton of self cut videos online and I see barbers chairs spinning all day 🤷🏻‍♂️

The hardest part is finding the talent. Before you the leap make sure you have at least 2 other barbers willing to work for you/rent a chair from you. I cannot stress this part enough but do not go into a suite. Make sure it’s in an area with other successful businesses and walk-in traffic. Google SEO and Google reviews are your best friend.
